ATV helpful?

I know this issue has been cursed on numerous threads, but if you can't beat 'em, join 'em....

Are they helpful for a hunt in Colorado?

I wish I would have bought one a long time ago. My truck would have far fewer hard miles on it. I don't like them off any surface that you would not take your truck. So - make your camp and park your truck and use the atv from there (in the same way you would use the pickup). They are faster and safer for getting around and you won't beat the ever lovin hell out of your more expensive vehicle (the one that has to get you back to your house).

My only issue would be noise but I don't own one and don't know enough about it. Anyone have luck with those aftermarket mufflers?

For early hunting and backpack trips obviously not as helpful.

I use my atv the same way. I run the roads on it. I did get a silencer for the muffler and love it. I forgot what brand, but it reduced the noise by at least half.

I have one and take it on all hunts that I can use it on. It's great to use when the roads are muddy and the snow is not too deep. Also you'll find trails that your truck is too wide that you can take to get as far as you can. Be responsible with it. I also take with the quad a 3 ft 1" reebar and a 10 pound hand sledge. I have a winch but sometimes you can't hook up to anything. Drive it in and pull yourseld out. GPS where you leave the quad and you'll always be not "so lost". We all are lost in new areas that we have never hunted before. The GPS justs keeps us going a little farther. Yes, buy that quad and have fun.

I use mine like the above guys, park the truck at camp and use it on the forest service roads to save wear and tear on my truck.
I just got the Koplin Stealth system and going to give that a try for the noise. ( Cabela's just had a sale on them, $79 instead of $199)will see how it works out this year.

I have torn up two new trucks in Colorado in the last 6 years. Bought a Rhino and used that back there this year. Worked great. I hunted third season and we got alot of snow later in that week. It was nice to be able to go up roads that a truck might need chains to get through and not have to chain up. I like the others only traveled on the roads. Was it helpful? I would say VERY. It got me to some trail heads after the snow that I dont think I would have made it too with my full size F-250 4X4. and it hauled a whole Elk back down also.

Chains is another good point. Putting your chains on in the snow and mud gets old. You will also have fewere white knuckle moments on a four wheeler. My truck has aged beyond its years...

I have a 08 Honda Rincon GPScape..had an 04 grizzley and an 94 honda 300trx... to me the honda was byfar the best! sure does save your truck from a beating, better gas milage also . So do the reseach and unjoy! just use it lawfully and reponabliy..
noise is not an issue unless you road hunt....
