So I will be heading to southern Utah this week to take part in the statewide archery deer hunt. How many of you are heading south now that your archery tag is statewide?

It will be interesting to see how this turns out down there.

I wasnt ever planning on going down there, ever. But I might head down there this weekend to see what the fuss is all about. Mostly out of spite!

I hear there are a bunch on Monroe, why don't you try that out? Might even find an elk. Good place for the whiner trevriv to be.

I wasn't going to go. But with all the stink I'm heading south tomorrow for a week

The smoke down here is really unhealthy. I would advise against hunting down in the southern part of the state.
Oh and it was 97 on the mountain last weekend. We are heading up north to get into the cool weather this weekend !

Nice try guys. Say what you want, I am bringing the crew to southern Utah this weekend. We are going to make you whining southern "locals" pay for what you have done :)

See ya Thursday!!

Heck - I will going down just for your lonely women and the beer. I will be cruising the hunting camps and Walmarts all day!! Yeehaw !!

I don't need to go I already got my deer down there. The smoke is really bad however, my dad has a hard time leaving and had to go north to wait out the smoke. I highly doubt anyone who is complaining about the way archery is set up now has ever attended a RAC meeting in their region. The local voice goes a long way. If this is so hard on the Non-southern region people to understand maybe you should try understanding how the DNR works and voice your opinions on the matter next time around...other wise you boys may never be able to get the state wide back to how it was.

Just a thought

Dillon,

That is almost laughable. the RAC listening to input. I guess in the southern region you might have a good RAC committe. I have attended several RAC meetings and left totally disgusted with it. These dudes/gals don't listen to ANYTHING. They just make lame excuses for why they have already made up their minds and that this meeting is just a techinicality.

The RAC is just a lame government farce that makes locals feel like they are involved and making a difference. meanwhile the decisions are all made in private with the SFW (another topic) and the DWR.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-02-09 AT 09:47AM (MST)[p]I do think the southern region has a good RAC and agree with a lot of what they do. However, I do agree that other organizations get a lot more pull on some subjects than the public does way to often. Then again anyone who understands the policy making that goes on in the government understands that groups especially specialty groups have a ton of power and influence.

I have been to several RAC meetings and I do understand that on some topics they are a little sealed and do put up some lame excuses. However, with time we will be able to really see the good or bad that comes from the statewide being put to a region. Time is the one thing that nobody wants to mention but in the only true indicator of a sucessful change.

I was actually on a mission when they pushed it through the RAC meetings so I was not able to go and hear what was presented so I don't have room to talk in that area. However, I was impressed with what I saw hunting with my bow down in southern this year.

I just wish people were more patient with hunting changes rather than wanting instant results. Mammals are not fruit flies, it takes them a while to have offspring and get a healthy population that is manageable.

I bet we all agree that someone is going to complain no matter what changes we see in hunting. I believe this to be a direct result of trust.

I should start a blog post on that.

Dillon-

The only thing you missed while not being able to attend the RAC was a lot of voices AGAINST choosing a region.
The WB should take your advise on not wanting instant changes because of a few barks. Don't you think they should look at facts and numbers before making huge decisions? I wish they would.

I'm damn sure complaining- and I went to more than one RAC on the subject.

But you are right, I must not understand how the RAC process works. I see it as smoke and mirrors, have them so the public feels as if they have input. When in actuality, the WB passes what they want, based on personal opinions.

Side note- I have seen some ideas passed from average joes- but I have seen more than enough personal agendas pass with flying colors not based on facts/ data, and with zero public support!

But if you knew what you were talking about you would know that the regional change was not based on animal populations in the southern region- it was because of "overcrowding issues"

As far as time being able to tell- Just give till the rifle hunt starts and 15,000 hunters hit the southern hills.

Well it was nice while it lasted. Not wanting to cause a battle but it would be interesting to know how many southern boys go to the north to hunt the extented archery hunt vs.how many northern boys bust their butt to go south now that they can hunt statewide.Like I said, I am not looking for a pissing match, just wondering outloud.(ROD)

Well... that was real classy. Thanks.

Trev,
I tried to edit my post but I was too late to do it. When I posted last night, I was in a pissy mood and I had seemed to recall a few posts from you that you were whining on. I went back and looked for those posts and realized that I was wrong. So when I went to edit, it said I was too late.
I do want to opologize for the comment.
