Limit Legal Immigration?

Most all of us agree illigal immigration should be stopped but what about legal immigration? a study out on tonights NBC news says the population of the US will be up from 300 million today to 438 million in 2050. 80% of that increase will be from LEGAL immigrants and their children born in the USA.

Now here comes the part where I might get called a racist, whites will fall to 47% of the population, Asians will increase from 5 to 9% and blacks will stay the same at 9%. so you can guess who most the 138 million people will be. I've been to Mexico once and I don't ever care to return, I really don't want it coming to me be either be it legal or illegal. I also don't want another 138 million people no matter what race they are, in my opinion we're overpoplated as it is I don't see the need to leave the door open. should America limit legal immigration or not? in my opinion yes and soon.

Well, in 2050, I will be 106 years old.....doubt I'll know the difference.

Between now and then, I would just as soon leave everyone who ain't already here, off the boat, so to speak.
 
It is inevitable....as we speak we are giving this nation to Mexico. They won't just want AZ, CA, NM back...the illegals as well as the Mexicans here legally are getting the entire country. Now, some may say Mexican is racist. If they are from Mexico, they are mexicans...plain and simple. So, their population has exploded where the caucasion population has not. Do the math....how many more children do mexican parents have than caucasion parents? I don't know the exact number but I'd bet it is more than 1. If every mexican couple has one more child than the caucasion couple, what happens? I'm not racist and I think it's crap that our society makes us feel like we need to say that...but, I want my kids and grandkids to learn OUR culture and speak OUR language. Some mexicans say that they shouldn't have to learn how to speak english yet a lot of Americans get turned down in the job market because they don't speak Spanish. I don't get it. That's all I'm gonna say. If I don't stop now, it'll be a book!!

I agree the ballot box is the place to take action but how can that happen when the politians are already pandering for the Hispanic vote? McCain wants to give the illegals a free pass and speed immigration, Obama looks as if he'll be the new president and I found where he wants a more efficient immigration system but he doesn't say what he wants to do with the illegals here today.

Every year the power of the Hispanic vote will be stronger, if it isn't too late to stop the legal inflow already it soon will be due to their voting block power. this is one of those issues you can't win , if you ignore it we'll be North Mexico before long, if you take it on you're a racist.

Legal imagration is what makes this the greatest country on planet earth ever in the history of man. Legal men who are abiding by the law should be let in. All men are created equal and should be treated as such under the law.
People like you said the same thing durring the Irish imigration and cuban imigration and german imigration.
I say let them in as long as they are leagal. It is the AMERICAN way.

Nobody is saying they're not equal, I'm saying we have enough people period. limit ALL immigration, there's no reason to change our culture and add to overpopulation just to make foreigners happy in my opinion.

I want to live in America, not Korea, Mexico or anywhere else. the melting pot idea was Ok at one time, but our culture will melt into a Mexican culture before long as they overtake us. as a Texan you may not notice the difference, I will and I'm not fine with it but there are enough people like you that I doubt it can be stopped.
 
I think if we work it right Mexico will soon be part of the U.S. We will have half thier country on our side in a matter of years. This time there won't be a question of is this going to be a slave state or a free state. Roll on Manifest Destiny.

Many economists and business tycoons believe we need even more immigrants. Some have theorized that the government's lax border policies have til recently been intentional. We will have a massive shift in our age demograhic shortly. Then there will be a large culling of the herd so to speak.

It's difficult to maintain a great nation when only 1/3 of your population is of working age.

In times of economic uncertainty and war it is not uncommon to have internists feelings. Given 9/11 I think history might understand a 2 year freeze and review so to speak.

Why would Mexico let the US make it part of the US? What would Mexico, as a people or as a region, offer us? Would we turn Mexico into the industrial capital of the world? That is the only benefit I can envision. The US would have cheap labor and the Mexicans would have steady work. We have that here in the US anyway.

At one point we had a country to populate. That time has come and gone.

Legal immigration should be cut 80% and the standards should be extremely high (educated, productive).

Then we need to do something about the lazy and selfish slobs we have been raising the last 2 generations.
 
I believe the time has come to, at a minimum, have a serious public discussion of the issue of limiting immigration.

Personally, I'd like to see our countries immigration policies be a mirror of the policies that immigrants come from. If their own countries have limited or no immigration, then we enforce the same on their citizens.

AND, we need to get control of the illegal immigrant problem before it overtakes our country. For starters, not providing equal access to higher education until all legal citizens have been admitted, not providing access to more than basic medical care unless it can be paid for, and deporting every immigrant who commits a crime. These would be a good start, along with no granting automatic citizenship to the children born to illegals.

Our country has evolved in many ways, and it is time to tighten up on immigration. DO NOT stop allowing it, just tighten it up.
 
The problem is we are talking about a 1/4 inch hole in the bow when the stern of the ship has been ripped off. I'd suspect if you look at the numbers of legal v.s. illegal immigration, the latter is off the charts. We could shut down legal alltogether and it won't change a thing if we don't address the other immigration/border issues.

Wasn't it Romney that said during the debates, that this is the nation everyone from every other country wants to immigrate to and that we simply can not take in all these millions and millions of people.
The times have changed and world population has exploded, and reason would suggest self limiting repoduction of human beings for our own sake. But there are countries where they still breed like rabbits and do not give a damn. Some of these nations even encourage their citizens to invade other countries like the USA.
Times have changed and these nations need to step up and provide for their own citizens, so they don't want to flee in the name of a better life.

I'm hispanic, but I do believe that we need to be selective as to who we let into this country. There does need to be some sort of limit also on the amount of people we let in. There are good and bad in all races. There are many many legal citizens who don't pull their weight also. What do we do with them?
 
I dont care if your hispanic or french....If you came here legally and pay your way its fine. We cant just send all the illegals back, The cost to round em up would be astronomical, and better spent securing our border to stop further illegals. As far as the ones who are here already, we need to identify them PERIOD. We cant deport them, Charge them fines, Or require them to pay taxes without finding out who they are. No drivers licenses because thats a privelige for our citizens, just ID cards so we can figure out who they are and go from there.
 
Ropinfool if we could get the dead beat Americans off their butts who who think they're to good for the jobs the illegals are doing we wouldn't have 10% of the illegal population we have today. after multiple generations of worthlessness I don't know how you'll ever get them to pull their weight,I'd vote for anyone who'd give it a try though.
 
The Baja Penisula and its fishing, How about mule deer huntin in January and Feb. Perhaps big mouth bass. A chance to explore tropical jungles and never need a passport.

I don't disagree at all. I am in favor of securing our borders and building a fence. I'm not in favor of giving illegals social security cards and drivers licences. I do believe that there are too many here now to just round them up and kick them out though. We need to make the ones who are here working pay taxes and contribute to this country. The gang bangers and drug dealers do need to be kicked out.....or shot. I also do believe that they need to learn english. I'm all for preserving your culture and don't believe that you have to become "white" to be an american. My ancestors migrated here from Spain long before the southwest was part of the United States. I think, or hope, that we have a high set of standards for our citizens in this country and anybody entering should be able to live up to those standards.

So now that you've stood up for unlimited immigration you're going to support welfare bums. what part of having welfare bums do the jobs the imigrants are coming here to do bothers you? did I hit too close to home?
 
You have no faith in America. Get rid of illegals and AMERICANS will fill the gaps. There is no doubt about it.

Then you ask "How do we get rid of illegals"
Simple. You punish the companies and peoiple like you that employ them. It would only take a few enforcements and folks would wise up and illegals would go home on their own. No rounding up required. Look at Arizona. It is working. Illegals are going home by the droves.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-15-08 AT 12:15PM (MST)[p]Yeah right, they'll move to another state and get work. a friend over in the valley told me he has calls every day at the mill he works at from people in AZ looking for work. until there is a system in place to identify illegals in less than the 2 months it takes for the SS dept to tell you if their number is good or not then they'll at least get to work for that long before they move to the next job. what is the employer supposed to do? say " you look like a Mexican and your accent makes me think you're a wetback " ? try that a few times and see how long it takes to get sued.

Even when this gets fixed your welfare bum friends aren't going to do the work I'll bet on it, as long as they have a choice they aren't going to work. even if the job paid more which means YOU are going to have to pay more for the services they provide 99% of welfare bums are LAZY, IF you can get them to try out which is a real chore they don't last even one day.

What we'll be forced do in time is open the border to legal immigration like you want OR inact a worker visa program like we should have years ago. my concern is with a ya'all come immigration program you advocate what's to stop a good number of the millions of immigrants from becoming welfare bums and draw from the social services once they're legal.

I don't even know why I waste the time arguing with someone who wants unlimited immigration, no public land and defends welfare bums. I guess like you I just like to argue.
