Utah DWR Changes

Apparently the DWR thinks that the deer herds are in trouble enough in our state that they decided to shorten the rifle season to 5 days state wide. On the other hand they think that we will have plenty of deer for the up coming 2011 season to schedule rifle hunters 18 days to hunt. Is there somthing wrong with this or is it just me? They did say that the hunting days would be reviewed before the next season and if it stayed at 5 days and we had 2 hunts like what is proposed that would still give them 10 days. 1 year of limited days will not do any good. Why not shorten all deer hunts, make it more equal for all hunters and give all the deer less pressure?

for 2011 there will be the same total amount of hunters in the field as now, just spread out over time with only half the amount in the field at any given time. Hopefully they will change those to 5 day hunts as well.

I have a hard time listening to all of us hunters complaining about these Deer in Utah or the lack of. I couldnt agree more. We have no deer in Utah! But unless we decide as a group all of us Archery, Muzz, Rifle and anyothers out there. I think we are in for just another bandaid fix. How about lets all just take one for the taem and not hunt deer for a year or so to build up the herds. I have been all over the west and have been on many limited entry hunts and there is no comparison. We also need to keep this YOUTH thing in check. Why is it that our fathers and grandfathers who tought us can only hunt for 5 days now but the YOUTH can only hunt for oh yea, every season, every hunt, any weapon, for longer that anyone else. Why is this so. When I go out with some of these Youth nowdays they have little interest in a general hunt, becouse they have had it so damn good for the start they are not even interested in hunting with the crouds. I hope that this doesnt sound like I dont like youth or the youth hunters, I love them. But we have taken this so far. Enough. We are all sportsmen and women. We are equal are we not. Lets not forget who has been flipping the bill for all of these years trying to keep the hunting heritage alive. Stop the Deer hunt now for a couple, Make more Sub-Units like every other state and manage them corectly, Equality in the hunting oppertunities and lets get back to having our state what it once was. Great! Thats just my 35 cents, I went well over 2. And I will be the first in line to give up my tag if anyone had that thought!

atta boy turbo...great perspective on the older folks that taught us how to hunt, especially since I know you are not one of them and fall into the mid 30's group with me!

Oakbrush,
Classic,
I had to smile becouse thats what I think also, but sometimes I cant hold it in. And who knows maybe just maybe it will finally sink in.

Very well said, Hunterturbo! I agree on the youth hunts, but I don't think stopping the hunt for a few years would do much. I would love to see them eliminate the double-dipping arrangement we currently have. Every deer hunter in the state applies for their LE tag and then goes out and buys a general tag. It NEEDS to be one or the other. This would do a lot for the crowding in general areas and make it much easier to get a LE tag for those who choose that option.

Find a way to give the RACs more say in the final decisions and I gaurantee things will change a whole lot faster.

A agree for the most part, but I like what they are doing for the youth to a point, they are the future of the "sport" if you will. I have noticed that there is alot less youth hunters out there then when I was young. And I to am in the 30'S age group

Yeah!
Enough with wanting to give the stinking YOUTH a good experience in the field! What about us! Who cares if the YOUTH are the future of hunting? Them little bastads should just learn to shoot faster, or better yet, stay home and play video games, and leave the hunting to us guys who "foot the bill"! I would be the first to give up my tag, but they'll probably just give my tag to a dam YOUTH hunter.
Enough is enough!..........

Idiots.
