Pretty sure it's not the same buck, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were closely related! :) The buck in my picture is a 3 on his left side.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-13-10 AT 07:56PM (MST)[p]This is a good friends 13 year old son. The buck is his first and I am proud to have helped him. It was a youth tag in southern Idaho.

I was unable to hunt mulies last year and I am suffering withdrawals....this thread helps me remember what I missed out on. I was able to take a small whitetail though...

YOU AINT GOING TO KILL A BIG BUCK UNLESS THERE IS A BIG BUCK WHERE YOUR HUNTING!!!

Hey Show Me Your Rack, do you have any pics of that buck after he's gutted:).

It never said lets see your 2009 buck dead or gutted!!! But since you asked nicely here you go!!!

YOU AINT GOING TO KILL A BIG BUCK UNLESS THERE IS A BIG BUCK WHERE YOUR HUNTING!!!

I'm usually not very good at picking out a photo shopped pic but I'm going to go out on a limb here and call this photo a fake. I didnt mean any disrespect with my previous post but after reading it I can see where it could come off disrespectful given the story behind the buck in the first picture.

I know you were just giving me a hard time its all good!!! I thought your post was funny!!!!

YOU AINT GOING TO KILL A BIG BUCK UNLESS THERE IS A BIG BUCK WHERE YOUR HUNTING!!!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-24-10 AT 02:34PM (MST)[p]Here is my first and only Mule Deer shot in New Mexico in 09. I had a blast.
<table border="0" width="1024" style="border: none; font-family: Myriad, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif;"><tr><td colspan="2" style="border: none;"><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" allowNetworking="all" src="http://w188.photobucket.com/flash/tagWidget.swf?mediaURL=aHR0cDovL2kxODgucGhvdG9idWNrZXQuY29tL2FsYnVtcy96MTIxLzY5MExJUFJJUFBFUi9OZXdNZXhpY28wMTEuanBn" width="1024" height="768"/></td></tr></table>

Guess it didnt work, i have the photo in photobucket. How do i attach here?

I would bet that if 10 people tried that shot at that distance 3-4 of them would wound the animal. I know a guy who rushed an off hand shot and hit the animal in the lower jaw. the buck ran off and bleed horribly but they never found him. I'm sure he died because he couldn't eat; what a horrible way to die. Something to think about the next time you try to shoot a deer in the eye at 300+. Have a little respect for your quarry.

Is that the buck that got up and ran away only to be lost? Oops, was I supposed to say that?

Show Me Your Rack you are a good sport. I could not imagine the heart break of losing a buck of that caliber. I was with my brother this year when we almost had a similar experience with his buck. For what it's worth I feel bad for what happened but I will never forget that story and I will always prepare for the worst when walking up to a downed animal.

My boys first buck (12 years old). Look a the grin. It took me a week to wipe it off his face. He still gets a grin or 2 when he sees the euro mount in the house. This is what it's all about!

Thanks RUMmy 300 for starting this post... and thanks to all of you for your posts. Great stuff...talk about "eye candy"! I love seeing all the successful harvests... even the smallest of bucks from first time hunters to those posts from hunters able to hunt several states! I love mule deer, whether it be looking at 'em like this or live, on the hoof; from the tiniest of fawns to the "great prince of the forest". Can't wait for next year's! Again, good job!
