How often do deer water?

So I am hunting a pretty low deserty area around 6500ft and we think we know a water source a particular group of bucks are using. Sitting the water is not an option (watering in the dark) but we think we have there travel route figured out and they don't make it to cover before it gets light. We want to try setting up along this travel route but I'm curious do these deer need to water every day? It gets to be 90-95 degrees in this area. Assuming there hasn't been rainfall in quite some time how often will a deer come to water?

down here where im from (southern utah) the bachelor groups i've been watching head for water every 3 to 4 days even when it reaches 100 degrees. a big part of their watering pattern depends on how much moisture their feed contains.

I promise they are using more than one water source...
So, they water probably every day, but a different waters

"hurry put the window down theres a deer"

The preference is every day. But they can go a couple of days.
But like stated earlier they go to more than one place.

You will find all kinds of studies done by biologists and volunteers who have set on water holes all over the west for days on end. Radio collared deer, and all kinds of ways used to try and figure that question out.

If you really get into the subject you'll find all kinds of interesting stuff. There have been small herds that have become so dependent on a single isolated water hole that when the hole goes dry there have been a dozen or more deer found dead around the dried up water hole.

As to your question I think you will find that a mature buck can and will go three days or more with out a drink. What they are feeding on makes a difference.

For about half the year does have to water every day.

All that being said sounds like you have a good plan.

Good Luck.
