My dad and I are looking to expand our hunting horizon to Colorado. We have never hunted in Colorado and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a few good quality units to put in for (non resident)? We have no preference points.. We are more interested in Northern and western Colorado... Are there quality units that have good public access that dont require preference points?... I am not looking for honey holes just a few suggestions that I can look into... If you can help, I would greatly appreciate it. PM me if you would like.

Thanks

16 NR points in my pocket and STILL not sure what to do. Glad I'm not you.

Venison and Zinfandel are GOOD!

Best place to be, with no points.
Pick a unit you can hunt every year. There's big bucks and good hunting in units that you will never hear about on here. You can kill a whole pile of big bucks in the time it takes to draw the high profile units

I've been following the stuff the the division of wildlife puts out to help hunters draw and find places to hunt when they don't draw. Give them a call and I'll bet you get some good info......lots better than on here.

Yes, there are good units that don't require preference points. I would get a topo map with public property, figure out a season you'd like to concentrate on. Also use google earth. Enough home work with those two resources and you will be set. Also the DOW website. I'm sure this is not the info you're looking for, but that's exactly what I have to do to figure out where I am hunting every year.

Us residents have to do the same exact leg work in order to get a quality hunt. We may have better access to scouting, but it all starts with the homework. Nobody has ever told me, "Go look in that area".

Good luck though. As everybody says, get more specific questions and people will help you here. Also, look in the archives. You'll find more information than you know what to do with.

i have not hunted Colorado muledeer for a few years ,but I have took some nice bucks in the less popular units.lower hunting pressure and fewer deer but always was a good hunt.
I went to hunting elk but thinking of the deer again as I am getting older and can't pack out an elk by myself anymore.
