My brothers and I are coming out to Colorado for the 2nd rifle season. I just did some driving/scouting in an area north of Livermore. Lot's of public and private land. Has anyone hunted this area? Are there a lot of hunters? I'm not looking for trophies but just a good hunt and seeing a lot of deer. It'll be my brothers first trips out west. I'm looking for any advice in this area or any other directions in units 9 or 19 as well. I kow 19 got hit by the fire pretty good, so the DNR pointed me in this direction. Good butcher shops in the area of Fort Collins? Any chance on getting on some private land? Thanks for "ANY" tips. If anyone is interested in coming to Wisconsin for some big whitetails I would love to help them out. Thanks

some of unit 19 burned in the big fire out here early this month.
never heard anything good about that area. I have hunted 9, 19, 191 in the past with no luck, lots of hunters as well. some will tell you that about 10 years ago the DOW thought they needed to kill all the animals in those units because of CWD, so the deer and elk herds got almost wiped out.

there is a game processor on 287 north of fort collins called reliable game processing.. i think?? I have used them to make deer sausage, they did a good job in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip on the processor and for the other information as well. I appreciate it! I guess we'll see what happens out there and I'll be able to post later how we did.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-19-12 AT 08:18PM (MST)[p]I've hunted it the last two years and I ice fish some lakes in that area. Lot's of hunters and not a lot of deer. I think the coyotes have made an impact on the herd also. I found two chewing on a deer leg last season (smoked one) and found a coyote killed fawn while shed hunting this spring. I only hunt it because it's close and I know it, and I usually spend my vacation on 1st season elk then MO whitetail. For 2nd season I'd go further up Poudre Canyon and focus on NF. Stay away from any state wildlife areas. They draw more hunters and the deer bail quick. You're going to need to be in shape to get after them. It's pretty rugged if you want to hike any distance away from people. If I'm not busy opening weekend I could go with you. There's an area up Poudre canyon that I plan on scouting that I'd take you to. It would probably be better 2nd season than 3rd anyway. I have a 3rd season buck tag. [email protected]
