Southern Utah help

Hey guys and gals, so this is my first year to receive an email with the words successful, instead of unsuccessful. I drew the Zion unit 29. I'm only fifteen and have never been on the unit. My dad (who doesn't hunt) is taking me, he also has no idea where to even go. I'm not a picky hunter seeing how this will be my very first hunt ever. But I would prefer something bigger then a spike or two point. I know I'm asking a lot but any advice as where to start looking would be awesome. I will only be hunting Sunday, Monday, and half if Tuesday. So please help a newbie out. Thanks everyone.

Between the general hunts and the antlerless hunts four or five. Why would that matter? I just want to hunt. Do I need to explain things in more detail next time? But thanks for your concern. I guess this site is a lost cause to ask for any help.

I hunted that unit a few years ago. It was fun but wet when we were there. After the sun poked out, we saw TONS of deer. Nothing big, but was fun. They are there though. Go ride the roads south, and south west of coral pink sand dunes. There are a few good canyons to watch. Sorry, I dont remember the names. But we saw alot. We did see a nice 4x4 get shot sunday morning in the 1 canyon. Good luck and have fun!!!

The Coral Pink Sand Dunes is also a Pumpkin Patch for the General Rifle for all 9 days. I haver never seen so many hunters is one area. Last year was bad!

Unfortunately, that is how it is in almost all general units. I know where we are going this year (not for me) we have 2 tags and 7 people going. Its fun to get out. I have an archery tag, actually for that same unit, Zion, but I did not get to go south and hunt. Things happened and I stayed here to help Hawkeye on his elk hunt on the wasatch.

You will have fun. get out and hunt and find some good areas to watch. Its alot of migration. So you should see deer.

Thank you guys for all the pointers. I would have never even guessed to try hunting at the sand dunes.

The Zion unit is one of the more complex units. You might want to try Pine Valley or Panguitch next time if you want to hunt that area. Zion is a migration hunt on public land, so the later in the season the better. Most of the deer are on private ground in the summer. There are a lot of small ranches and its an uptight place to hunt even if you can get on a ranch. Coral Pink is a popular place as was already suggested. You might do okay on the South side of Highway 14. I know someone who muzz hunted there last week, he saw a few small bucks but didn't shoot at them. You might also want to try east zion. Learn the boundaries though as there is a mix of public and private. People will try to kick you off of public ground.
