Well it is not an easy hunt and good bucks simply do not exist.. I hunted it last year and live in the unit. We spent 6 days hunting hard and never saw a 4 point buck, we did see over 18 legal bulls and one over 300 but the deer numbers suck, the quality sucks and they just keep giving out the tags. I will be hunting it again and in 5 full days of scouting and several evening trips I have found one good 3 point who will probably go in the mid 160s. Last year I did a little informal study. I counted and tracked the bucks that were little dinks close to roads. Best I can tell opening weekend of 2nd season 19 of 22 spikes and forkies were killed. By end of season 21 of 22 were killed.

I only hunt the unit because I can draw it... I wish I was hunting almost any other unit in the state for deer right now.

Good luck I just would think of the trip as a vacation to the mountains with chance at a deer and not something I would consider a great option

There was a few good ones last year . My step father and his hunting partner both took 28" 4x4s , one going high 170's and the other was crab clawed and would be lucky to break 160 . They had never hunted the unit before and just stumbled upon these bucks late in the hunt , some times lady luck shines upon us hunters !

I know of 1 that went 174 and one right at 180 last year. 3rd season bucks. Like most units it gets better with weather and the rut getting closer.

forward to it.Have you scouted it in 4th season any? Thanks, bobcat
