A friend of mine just killed a MONSTER 5x5. His bull was killed in NM and grosses 370"! I was just curious, could this be the largest true 5x5 ever harvested or does anyone know of a larger 5x5 than that?

Thats a gorilla bull , 370 5x5 , man I can't wait to see him . I've seen two 5x5s that score real high , one is at Charles Sporting goods in Albuquerque and I think that bull is around 330 and Eddie Claypool's brother in law shot a bull about 6-7 years back out of 16B I think , that bull scored 340 and was just a monster hog being a 5x5 . What unit did he come from , the 16s' or 15 ? Its best I don't ever see a bull that big , I don't know if I could live with myself if I were to miss lol....NMhuntnutt

I can believe that. I posted a picture of my best friends bull from Idaho last year and it scored 354. It was a 6X6 but it's G5's were less than 6". I would love to see a picture of this bull. Must be nice.

There's a 5x5 gene pool on the southwest desert unit here in Utah. I know of a 340-360 5x5 that was taken in 99 there. It was in the Easton catalog a few years ago.

370 sounds bigger than anything I've heard of though. Might you be getting any picutres?

Cheers,
Pete

Just came back from my friends Elk camp and he took a huge 5x5 in 15 don't know what he would score. I'll try to get a pic and post it.

I will see him on Thursday and I am sure I will get some pictures. I will post them when I get them. This guy has killed 2 200" non typs, a 196" typical and a 370" 5x5 all in the past 3 years.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-22-03 AT 02:27PM (MST)[p]370 5x5.......that is a HOG of an Elk....the brows along with the 3's & main beam would have to be really great to get that high of a score......largest I have ever heard of and would definitely like to see the picture.....see what you can do Drum......

The biggest 5x5 ever recorded is in the book by Roger Selner, "Greatest Elk". Killed in 1966 by Tom Satre in Montana, the bull net scores 376 2/8". Thats after deducting a 10 3/8" cheater!!!!! Unreal. If any of you don't have this book I'd strongly suggest buying it. Lots of ginormous bulls and big 'ol sheds.

Josh

Love to see some pics of your guys' big 5x5s too.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-24-03 AT 09:41AM (MST)[p]I have video of a straight 5 point bull that I think is at least a 370 bull maybe 380. My friend may take him on his smoke pole hunt. The unit we are hunting, has a 5 point gene in it, and I have seen at least 4-5 5point bulls that will go over 350 this year on this unit. I picked a 5 point set up last year that with a 40" spread would have went 340. Most people will not shoot them, because they want a 6 point. I wish they would have some type of a cull your youth hunt to get rid of this gene. I am afraid it is taking over. After my friends hunt, I may post this 5 point. He is a pig.

Cass was saying last year a buddy of his filmed a 5x5 that would score over 400. He was going to post pictures, BUT..............

A 370 5X5 probably has the mass and tine length of a 400 class bull less the G5s. G5s on really big bulls are plus/minus 12". If this bull were a sixby, it would be in the mid to upper 390s gross.

I finally got the pic from my friend. Can I e-mail it to someone that can post it? It's not as big as I thought it was but still an awsome 5x5.

As promised Drum, I've got to give a quick report. I saw a pic of this pig last night. He is enormous! With a rack like that, who's counting points!!!!

Drummond,
Have you got a picture of that 370" 5X5 to post yet?

Vinihunt,

I found a picture of a 362" 5X5, if someone wants, I will e-mail it to them to post.

Corey

Here is the 362 5x5 bull BUGLELK talked about. He said he doesn't know the story behind it.

I have not gotten a scanner yet but I will get it done. I promise that the story is true. I think that most will vouch for me not spewing BS. I will get it done ASAP.

Drummond

I'm definitely not calling BS, just excited to see it! You've backed all your statements up with proof, so I'm not worried, just impatient.

Corey

I have a buddy who shot a 367 net 5X5 this year in Arizona, if somebody will post the pictures Ill send it to them it has 31" G3s. It is a true hog.

If Huntsonora says he has got it........he has got it!....just give him a little time to get up to date...I feel the same pain he does.....just updated to a scanner a few weeks back for business issues as well as other things.....com'in Drum, the guys are anxious just as well as I.....I would definitely Vouch for him....Dwayne

Let me tell you all that this story is TRUE! I met the hunter who took him and saw the 35mm pic of it...it is truely AN AWESOME bull...be patient, Huntsonora will get it done. He is a busy man and he sometimes overbooks himself...but give him a little time. It'll be worth the wait...this bull is HUGE!

Its true, Tom Satre killed a 5x5 in 1966 in Gallatin County, Montana. the first points are 19 and 18 inches. the second points are 22 and 23 inches. the third points are 29 and 30 inches, and finally the fourths are 25 and 26 inches

Yeah, I want to see this hawg! That is an awesome bull you post buglelk! Dam! He scores as a 5X Cass, the little cheaters dont make a dam bit of difference.

Sheepeater, send the pic to me, I'll post it! [email protected]

Someone way up there mentioned that a 370 5X5 is basically a 400 bull without G5's. That is right on. Like he said, 10-12 inch 5ths, plus the mass measurement of 8-10 inches on a bull like that. Thats possibly another 44 inches, making that a 414 if he grew 5ths. IF.....

The biggest 5 I've ever seen hangs above the door in Bob Wards in Missoula, MT. He's gotta go 310ish.

Looks like someone must have point envy if they want to count those little bumps, or is just jealous that they have never been able to produce a picture of an elk to back up any of his stories. Hope your dog dont run a way with any more rolls of film there CASS. By the way did you ever get that camera or video camera?

That's a hog of a 5x5 bull, I got two sets of 5x5 elk sheds 1 going at 354 and the other at 375.
