Hey Guy's,

I'm looking into one of those landowner permission cow hunts for my aging father. He can't get out like he used to, but still loves a freezer full of elk. Does anybody have any helpful info on this hunt. If i understand it right you don't actually apply for the hunt. You have to wait and then when the participating landowner list comes out, the tags go first come first served as long as you have written permission.

I think that is right, anyway if somebody has any info on a landowner that may be a part of that i would greatly appreciate it (so will dad).

Note 2 page 55 Landowner Permission Hunts. Written permission from a landowner who owns more than 159 acres in the hunt area is required to apply for this hunt.......will be sold on a first come first served basis starting July 15th at IDFG regional offices in Nampa, McCall, Jerome. Do not apply for this hunt during the controlled hunt application period.

Looks like you need to know someone or knock on some doors.

Another option are controlled hunt cow tags. Some have reasonable draw odds, with good chances for success. Just get the apps. in by june 5th. Good luck.

Yep, he will probably put in for one of the controlled hunts as usual. But if he doesn't draw we will pursue the landowner hunt in 39. I guess f&g comes out with a list with the participating landowner every year so we will probably go that route. Man it sucks to watch your parents get old.
