I have a chance to purchase a landowner ES archery tag for unit 13 for $2500.00. I was wondering if this is a decent unit over all as for the elk numbers and what the bull quality is like. Does unit #13 have the same type terrain throughout or does it vary from area to area. Any info on the unit would be greatly appreciated-thanks so much in advance-Hatrick

I hunted 13 last year.. I was in elk pretty much every other day... I called in about 6 bulls total but I only had a cow tag.... Hunting cow elk during the rut is like hunting hen Turkeys in spring.... There is not alot of water in the unit so hunt the water or the travel paths to the water... They might water at night... After the first day most of the elk head for private land so it only gets harder as the hunt goes on...
I am going to put in 13 again maybe we can meet up.. I must admit that there are not as many elk as in 15 or the 16's...

You may want to go to www.bowsite.com and do a search on unit 13. Check out what (Mike the cheesehead) and his group encounter in unit 13. You can hunt that unit for 7 days straight and not see an elk. Or you could get lucky and find them every other day. Also if and when you do find a bull he will be a hog!!!! Last year (muzzle hunt) I saw a total of 2 elk 1 cow before the season started and I jumped a bull on the last day but didn't get a shot. All I can say is you have to do alot of scouting and sometimes that doesn't even pay off. Just trying to say 13 is very hard not alot of elk in alot of land. If I had 2500 to spend on an elk tag it wouldn't be in unit 13.
