I would like to take my nephews on an elk hunt under the junior mentored program. We would be coming from just across the border in Oregon (Brownlee Resv.)Anyone have any suggestions on where they would have a better than average chance to tag an elk? They would be happy with a small bull or even a cow.I would be glad to share info on the Brownlee area.

Buglelk would have given you some good advice but you might also want to check out the harvest data. Here's a link to the general season and controlled hunts.

I think that is great that Idaho provides quality opportunities and discounts to residents and nonresident kids. I have heard a rumor that the rules for the mentor license may be changed so that the nonresident kid has to be hunting with a resident hunter to get the discount. I haven't heard anything about it over the last month though. The 2004 regs will be available in a few weeks so I wouldn't recommend buy a tag for the kids until then.

Thanks for the comebacks. This really is a great program. It makes it easier to recruit new hunters into our sport. We can use them for the battles in the future.
