Colorado Unit 4 & 441

My father and I will be heading there for the 1st rifle season. I know these units are going to be crowded and there are not many, if any big bulls on public land. We have never rifle hunted elk before and the success rate for this hunt has been high. I've spent a few hours studying topo maps and would like to run a few of my ideas past anyone familar with the area. Thanks

I've seen alot of Elk at California and Slater Park north of Hayden, and a good number on Black Mtn north of Craig, but these trips were during the first week of September. Never been up there during the rifle seaons.

Should be no trouble to get a raghorn bull from those units.
If you can hike in at least a couple miles 99% of the crowd is left behind and you will see more game.
Hope a couple of you have deer tags as there are some decent bucks there as well.
