Hunted Kennedy Peak last night in the Snowy Range for about 3 hours after work and the bulls were hot, absolutely hot. Had at least 10 different bulls bugling in one drainage. They weren't hunters either, I didn't see any other trucks in the area. We called in two bulls into bow range, one a spike and the other a 5x5, but didn't take any shots. The 5x5 came within 10 yards at one point. We had seen a nice 6x6 across the drainage with about 4 cows and we tried to get close to him, but ran out of light. In all we saw 5 bulls and about 50 cows. Didn't see the other five bulls that were bugling. A buddy of mine was hunting this past weekend and spoke with the lady who mans the fire lookout on Kennedy Peak. She told him that she has seen numerous elk in the area recently including "the biggest elk she has seen in the area in 7 years of working the tower." Whatever that might mean!

Anyone else hunting the Snowy Range area. Curious to see if the bulls are that hot throughout the range?

LAST EDITED ON Sep-10-04 AT 06:56PM (MST)[p]I've hit the Kennedy Peak area three weekends in a row. Scouting for moose is my mission. I haven't seen much for elk, but have seen signifcant sign. If you care to post or could e-mail me at [email protected], I would certainly appreciate any insight on moose sightings. One of the biologist's I've been conversing with assures me there's a 50 plus inch bull on one of the creeks I've been scouting. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find him. When I deer/elk hunted that country, I always saw some decent bulls around Pennock during the deer season. Come elk season they always decided to hole up in the timber. Rick

I actually did see some moose in the area, although no bulls. There is a road(I don't know the number) but its about a mile up from the Lincoln PArk campground and goes to the west. It's the road that goes around the base of Kennedy Peak. I was hunting about two miles up that road and saw 2 cow moose with one calf. I don't know much about the moose rut, but if it's getting close I bet a bull is to be found near by. I think the stream may have been Cedar Creek?
