CO Plains Elk Question

Hi All-

Well, I didn't succeed in my archery endeavors this year, and I was looking to find a way to still put some elk in the freezer. I've used up my List A and List B options for elk during archery, and according to the regs, the only tag I can still get is from List C. Since I don't know anyone with private land, my only option would be one of the unlimited either-sex plains elk tags.

Has anyone ever had any luck with one of these tags, or have any info on where in world to start looking for elk on the plains? Even though my ultimate goal would be to put meat in the freezer, I like being out chasing critters around so I wouldn't be heartbroken if I had to eat another tag sandwich.

Thanks in advance for any help, and good luck to everyone with their tags!

I know there are elk on the terry bison ranch but I think they charge for them. maybe . There are very few elk out on the plains E of I-25 in the units listed in the regs. and of course most of the land is private. You do have several more months to look for them! I have not hunted elk out there because of the fraction of a chance of finding them. I do know a elk was killed in unit 87 last year but I wonder if it was shot 1st then a tag was bought, either way it was a complete fluke to see it.
hope that helps.
BTW, the terry bison ranch is north of Fort Collins about 35 minutes and partly in Wyoming.

Thanks for the help Jeff and Waygoner. I'll look some more into the info you guys gave me, and probably get a tag and give it a try. In the off chance I see anything or have any luck, I'll put a post with the info. Thanks again for the info guys!

MOre than likey the units in southern CO east of I-25 are not in the list for that tag. Yes there are several units east of i25 that hold decent numbers of elk but they are not listed among the units. double check though!
