Anyone have any info? I have heard it is decent and there are leftover tags for NR? I am having a tough time finding any info on the unit.

Is this a back in type unit? How rough is the terrain (63 year old dad can hunt elk in some areas but the worst areas he could not)? Public access? Elk numbers? Any info at all appreciated!

Thanks

DON,.... I KILLED A NICE 4X4 BUCK IN 90 SEVERAL YEARS BACK, AND SAW A DECENT NUMBER OF ELK AND MOOSE. THIS IS THE SALT RANGE AS I RECALL, WITH SOME GOOD ACESS ROADS IN. YEA YOU COULD BACK IN AND HUNT IN MOST AREAS. THIS IS NOT JUST A RAG HORN AREA EITHER, SOME REAL NICE BULLS ROAM THAT AREA. THE LOCAL FEED LOT HAS A NUMBER OF GOOD BULLS ON IT IN THE WINTER. A OLDER HUNTER CAN WALK FOR DAYS AS THAT COUNTRY IS NOT THAT ROUGH AT ALL. IN FACT MY DAD WAS IN HIS 60S AT THE TIME, AND DID REAL WELL. I NEED TO GET BACK THERE MYSELF REAL SOON. YOU CAN GET THE LAY OF THE LAND FROM THE HIGHWAY, AND PICK YOUR SPOT. I DO NOT RECALL ENCOUNTERING OTHER HUNTERS, BUT IT WAS NOT ON THE OPENER EITHER. LET ME KNOW HOW SHE GOES. TAKE ER EASY,..... YD. (THIS IS ALSO ACESSIBLE FROM THE EAST SIDE.)

YD, that is the kind of info I have been hearing, years ago buddy drew leftover rifle bull tag NR, seems to good to be true! Will look into it further and thanks a lot! Especially terrain info, mom would not be happy if I brang my dad home dead of heart attack!

Take care Don

DON, THAT IS BIG COUNTRY IN THERE BY MY STANDARDS, IF YOU HANG IN/ HUNT HARD YOU MIGHT DO ALRIGHT. I DONT THINK I WOULD WISH FOR ANY BAD WEATHER IN THIS AREA/ IT MIGHT HINDER YOUR HUNT. YD.

By the elk opener on Oct. 15th, all the 'G/H' deer hunters (depending on what end of elk-90 ya hunt) will be done and gone, should give you and your dad plenty of elbow room from other hunters.

i shot this elk there this year on the 17 of october. there are quite a few people around unles you get a ways in. the land is actually pretty steep and hard. lots of elk. i know he isnt huge but i was happy. he rolled down the hill and off a cliff, had to gut him in the river--sucked. i love the area though

i dont know why they are all wierd looking--but it is an idea of the country, pretty good cliff--made a big splash

Nice elk, what a cliff! Did it tenderize him for you?

I had a friend who found a thick area right by the road and was into elk really good after only a short hike in from the road. 1/2 mile. I am guessing he just got lucky and got into elk. He was a NR too, no scouting time really.

Thanks for the info
