Elk decoys

Hopefully someone will answer you on this I to would like to know in what situations they were used and what the results were come guys a litle info here

I have a Montana Decoy that I used last year. I set it up on a call in spot.

A spike came into the calls and seen the decoy. He was looking so hard at the decoy that he almost stepped on my hunter. I would recommend that you set it up then move up about 15 or 20 yards toward the elk you are calling. Start calling. Once the elk see it all of there attention will be focused on the decoy.
Which if hunting solo will be a great advantage to allow you to draw.

Warning don't sit to close to the decoy they look very real! Also do not use in rifle season. Could be dangerous!

I used one last year for the first time. I dont remember the brand but it was a digital photo on hard cardboard type material and couple small metal rods to attach to the ground if necessary. I actually sat behind the decoy in front and off to the side of the hunter and had bulls screaming/raking trees within 15 yards of me. Grunting at and talking to this "Cow". It really worked even when the wind shifted, one bull still stayed right on me barking at the cow decoy. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Thanks for the info, I got a hunch it will work, many times in the past had bulls hang up......they could hear elk, but they couldnt see them.

I have six for sale.
the desert sheep foundation picked up a couple this year for their banquet, to auction off.
I typ. put them on e-bay for sale, but this year have just been to busy.
if interested give me an e-mail

Elk Master, I would be interested in buying a decoy. I drew a Montana 380 tag and will be reaquanting myself with archery hunting after a 12 year break. Give me a call. Dan 509-521-9431

My situation is 2 archery elk tags. One in Arizona, One in New Mexico. Both run the same dates with Arizona running an extra four days. I've definitely had worse problems.

Ive archery hunted elk a lot, but never used a decoy. I was curious on how it would work on those bulls that hang up out there just out of archery range.

Good luck all.

i have 4 with necks down,
and 1 with neck out.

its like any decoy they take the focus off of your movement and his serch is over he sees his lady and in he comes.
there are a few of you out there that have purchased my decoys over the last couple years.
chime in and help these guys out.
secrete is out INSTANT ELK decoys "work"

I brought 2 from him last year and they do work. $100 a pc.
I think they could be done up a bit tougher then they are. Mine the stiching came loose in a couple of spots and the stake to put them up isn't strong enough to push into hard ground.
BUT THEY DO WORK.

Muleybull,
yes you could put grometts in the edges and sling them from trees or bushes.
the stakes are tent-pole, fiberglass,
with one end steel caped this end is ment to be stabbed in the ground.
There are times when there is nothing but rock.
i have found that if this is the case i look for weed clumps to set up in such as sage,

sorry some stiching came apart gator,
i tried to reinforce all the critical points,
yours is the first i have heard of this problem.

Sounds good, just trying to get all the info I can before I decide to add another item to try and pack around.

would using elk decoy's be considered baiting? Is it legall to use them in Utah? I wouldn/t mind getting one if they are legal to use, anyone know about it in Utah?

I cant tell you,
talk to you local conservation officers.
I tryed them last year while goose hunting, i don't think it affected them one bit.

It is 100% legal to bait in Utah.(Except for migratory gamebirds of course).

Anyone who tells you different is misinformed.

ITS ILLEGAL HERE IN IOWA. (TO BAIT)
but its legal to use decoys.
would you walk across football field just for shi#s and giggles? how about if there was a stripper standing on the other side point at her "!:, and pleading with you to take her then and there?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-05 AT 02:37PM (MST)[p]dutch thats the reason the INSTANT ELK decoys are headless.
in most cases its illegal to shoot the wrong sex of elk.
either you have a bull or a cow tag or some times either sex.
but in most situations the bull is restricted to no. of points
and you better make sure it is what your shooting at.
if you cant see the head and count the points or see the head and confirm its a cow you best not shoot.
and the last thing you do is set next to your decoys,
the elk will focuss in on them thats the idea, and not catch your movement off to the side.
by the way i only have 3 decoys left.
I'm leaving a week earlier than i previously planed,
i'm not selling them this year on e-bay so if you want one ,
let me know,
