Rifle Elk Help Golden, CO

Buddy of mine travelling on business for middle 3 weeks of October. He'll be in Golden, CO. I might fly out and join him if possible for a rifle hunt. Any public land areas nearby that we can hunt with OTC tags? Any OTC cow tags? We'd probably only have the weekends and wouldn't be looking for trophies, just fun & meat.
