Well it's not my idea but the optimism is rubbing off. My buddy and I will be off to New Mexico's Valle Vidal for the first rifle hunt. The weather has been warm holding off the rut a bit. The weather (for what the forcast is worth) is calling for calm winds the first 3 days. The moon will be a sliver the first few days. The trees are going to be raging with color. I know it's hunting but everything is lining up for a productive hunt. We drew this once in a lifetime tag the first time we put in so perhaps luck will be on our side as it has been so far. We are going to spend the night Thursday about 30 miles away at the NRA's Whittington Center just before we go into camp. Friday morning we will get our last round of practice at elk targets at 400 yards. A guy I talked with that hunted there last year passed on 18 bulls before taking one on the 4th day. I'll post the pictures when we get back.
