On my way to Price Ut. From the looks of it a whole heard of elk were caught on the train tracks. Sad day

lets see I think they were standing in that 5 foot when the train wiped them out. Dead elk laying everywhere

Rut,

You sure they were elk? Did one of them have a red nose?

Just curious because Santa hasn't arrived at my house yet!

Merry Christmas!

Ya know Steve
I didn't get that good of a look. It might of been Santa! Because she hasn't shown up at my house either. I did hear Blitzen took a hit from a 180 gr. spitzer. But he managed to get away no thanks to the rest of the heard dragging him along?

Seen a similiar thing in Nevada a few years back. Antelope herd versus train, not pretty. If I remember right, the snow was too deep for the goats to get off the track and run, so they took off running on the only place they could get a foothold. Maybe the situation was similiar in this instance, although I thought elk were a lot smarter than antelope.

My father worked for the railroad for 35 years. He has plenty of stories similar to this one. Somehow animals get "locked in" using the tracks for an escape route. The results are the same every time.

HEY RUT Do You know what sheep look like??? If so than how did you confuse them with ELK??? Too much egg nog for Christmas

Wow my bad I guess. I was driving i just glanced my passanger told me about it. MY son. I feel stupid if that is the case but better sheep then elk.

Eelgrass: No matter if they were sheep or elk, I'm sure that they all had "red noses". As well as red butts, red guts, red heads.....

Rut,

I too saw the elk, they where up the canyon a ways, looked like three or four head had been hit in about a 50 yard range. The sheep where killed near the bottom of the canyon. I have a friend that works for the railroad, and he has told me in the past that it is nothing for them trains to take out deer and elk every day in SF canyon.

Ah Ha Thanks Arrowhuntr I was thinking i was going crazy and had a monkey on my back i needed to get off.

Two different crashes. Rut, don't worry, you're not crazy. The sheep were just outside town.
