Hey, This is an open invitation to anyone who draws this tag, Rifle, Muzzleloader or Archery. I'm gonna be up in ely just about every weekend from July - September and possibly longer. I'm gonna be up there shooting video for my video release and scouting bulls. I have no chance of getting this tag but I do know the area extremely well. If anyone gets this tag and is having trouble finding a bull, I know this is early, But feel free to hit me up if you don't have the time to find a guide. I'm not trying to make any money off of this I just want to get some killshots for my video. I can't promise any thing, I don't want money because i'm not a licenced guide, but if you guys are up there and having a hard time feel free to give me a ring, I'll head up and see what I can do to help you get a really decent bull to fill your tag.

Hey Cass, I have 8 bonus points and will be putting in for archery for that area. I hope to draw this year and if I do, I will take the last 2 weeks of the hunt off.If I do, I will definately get ahold of you. It sounds like we could both benefit. My brother got a nice bull down there this year, but it was in 111-114.Im not sure which one for sure.If I draw, I will definately scout it, but not as much as your saying.I sure hope I draw. Maybe I could get your E-mail in case I draw.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-09-06 AT 01:00PM (MST)[p]That's the best idea for that tag. I drew it 2 years ago and spent nearly the entire hunt up there. It was hot, 80-90 degrees some days and it was beginning to push the elk Out of the rut. The bulls weren't squeeling as much and no fighting nothing. But on the last day I finally got a break and the weather did a completel 180. Woke up to thunder, lightning, and snow. I really wish I had 2 more days up there because I spent that entire day chasing a 390 6x6 with 20 cows.

And my Email is [email protected] if you get the tag I think we could find you a damn fine bull. I just hope they are still going to be on the same pattern they were last year because if they are, You are going to have a blast ;)
Oh and just to kinda ruffle your feathers. I drew my archery tag with 2 bonus points :p

-Cass

Hey Cass, sounds good. If I draw, I will definately contact you for sure. I can't believe you drew with 2 points, but somebody has to draw.I just know Im getting close.I am kind of worried about that weather thing, but I will take my chances. It sounds like you didn't tag out, but chasing a 390 bull had to be awesome.I can't wait til the draw.

I have some great video from that year i'll bring up and show you if you draw that tag, or whoever draws.

Cass

Hey NoDoe- Just wondering if you were putting in for archery also. My brother drew the rifle tag with 6 points last year and got a pretty nice bull, but I want to hunt elk with my bow.Good Luck to you on the draw.

Hey cass this is a guy who lives in Ely I think i will hunt with a guy i met and has a good 400" Bull Spotted and showed me the video so i was wondering if you know anybody by the name of Chris Robison. He is only a teenager but he knows his stuff so if you could tell me about him if you know him.

Cass, meet HuntNevada and HuntNevada meet Cass. Now that is done, so why don't you two COUSINS get together???????????????

Brian

Check the profile icon and that is what it says, but then "this cousin" might be someone else like you said. Call him on the "landline" and see if it is really him.

Brian

Hmm It is chris by the looks of his profile. Chris, i'll be up there soon as the snow melts off the mountains, You should come shed hunting with me if Kev will let ya.

-Cass

Hey cass...already been lookin up here for them sheds but nothin dropped yet but a got a white bull that will go an easy 380-390 so, and i have a buck spotted that will go between 180-190" so get a hold of me and will go.

A white bull? Caspers still alive?
Sounds like a plan chris, I'll give you a holler once i'm up there.
Take it easy

-Cass

Yea its a white bull but its not casper...casper has been dead for a about a year now but he is a great bull. Yea hope to hear from ya.

Compensation is not a requirement to be a guide in Nevada, guiding with out a license is a gross misdemeanor pursuant to NRS 504.390! Could be a federal violation without the proper FS and BLM use permits!

Ok so what are you sayin? If I take somone out and help them find a bull then it's a misdemeanor?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-12-06 AT 05:43PM (MST)[p]Hey Elkguide you don't have to obtain a guiding license unless you are getting paid. And just helping someone is not that big of a deal. That is like saying if someone asked you in the field if you have seen any elk or whatever animal it is and and you tell them and maybe just help them get there and maybe shoot a elk.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. As long as your not getting paid you will be fine. Elkguide is just worried about his bottomline just like the rest of us who run a business.

O.K. i just replied to the mule deer post and now Ive seen this.Yes Cass, if you help someone find and kill an animal, you have basically commited a crime.Yes HuntNevada, if someone asks you in the field and you tell them ANY information, you have also commited a crime. What is this world coming to? I guess we are supposed to go out in the field, hunt, take pictures, whatever, and come home and protect the people who are getting paid for the things we have just experienced.I guess if I go show my dad, brother, or even a MM member what I have been blessed to have experienced, I have commited a crime.I have been a MM member for 1 week and I already feel disgusted for what I have done.I have joined a membership in which you share one of gods greatest gifts and I don't even have a license to do so.Elkguide, I don't disagree for people wanting to pay for help in the field and don't disagree with what guides do.I don't want to offend any guides at all. I just don't think the rest of us who don't want to be a part of that should be subjected to it.We should be left alone. We are doing the same thing as you without pay with people we enjoy to be with. And we are not making money. Please tell me WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?

I'm going to disagree with nvguy. There's nothing wrong with helping other hunters out and as long as no compensation is given there is no crime commited. I'm willing to share my knoweldge with anyone who asks and there's nothing wrong or illegal with that. But when someone comes on a public forum offering thier services that in my opinion is similar to advertizing. There are a lot of wannabes in Nevada doing just that. Acting as a guide and skirting the law by saying they're just helping out a fellow hunter. They usually receive some sort of compensation or gratuity which is ILLEGAL. If you want to be a guide do it the way the rest of us have done legally.
Wes

ughhhh.... This has gotten way outa hand.....
I'm not trying to advertise my services, I just know that every year for the past 5 i've gotten private messages about hunting nevada both concerning elk and Mule deer. And since I can't get any more than 2 possible killshots between my utah / nevada Deer tags I just thought i'd throw the idea out there because I know, From personal experience, That a lot of people don't have the time to scout. I am, In no way trying to take customers away from the guides here on this site. I love the work and dedication you guys put to the outdoors and I wish there were more guides out there with the honor you guys have.

-Cass

Maybe we're missunderstanding each other. If someone is just sharing thier knoweldge of an area or other information there's nothing wrong with that at all. But the wannabes that I'm talking about are the ones that are accompaning hunters in the field under the guise of just helping out.

Please provide the definition of a guide from the NRS and quote that definiton.
I would also require the quote of the NSR 504.390 you quoted above.

This is BS as stated before, a family member helping out would be breaking the law... Since hunting is a family sport I think you are miss representating the facts.

Just my opinion...

Boy, all of you guys getting the tag with very few bonus points, makes me jealous. I'm sitting on 10 bp's, and hopefully, this will be my year. In the early years I applied for the archery hunts but now I think I'll stick with the rifle hunts. If I draw I'll make sure I make a post on this site asking for some assistance wether free or paid for. Thanks for the offer. Kerry

Sorry it took so long to get back NVGUY2.Been in the hills.I only put in for rifle.Good luck to you too. Don

Cass,
I think that is a very nice offer.I think most people are so protective over there hunting spots and animals, that most people think that you are trying to benefit in some way.

I had a NV Elk tag last year and I have to say it was amazing!! NV has some great elk!! but it is also very BIG and every little bit helps.
