I've been out scouting elk in both the Snowy Range and Sierra Madres the past couple of weeks and been seeing lots of elk, including some impressive bulls. I've always seen many elk scouting in these areas, but come hunting season it seems most move down lower to the private ranches and are inaccessible. Anybosy else notice this? Last year we hunted around Rob Roy and managed one cow and one 5x5 between five of us in camp on a week long trip, but we only saw three other elk all week. Spoke with people in Albany and Centennial and most said elk were down on the ranches already(late September and Oct). Anyone else been scouting these areas? I plan on hunting general this year in those areas.
