These photos struck me as a little odd. It leads me to belive there are other methods for taking trophy elk other than slinging projectiles.

I'm told this happened in Montana, but I have no other details. Someone most likely hit it with a vehicle, or shot it and it headed for the water to die... and succeeded.

Last word I heard from a friend in Montana was that the photos were likely from the Columbia River in WA. One heck of a catch. I'm taking my big game tags with me fishing from now on....

Looks like the Columbia River to me. Also, all that gear looks like they were trying to catch a salmon...not sure if Montana has much salmon? Incidental catch for sure! Makes me wanna' take some of my salmon gear out elk hunting next time and see if I can't catch me one of those!

That was here in Washington on the Columbia River. The bull was poached along the shoreline of the Hanford Reservation this September (salmon season)and ended up floating down the river. These guys recovered it, contacted F&G, and got it to shore. F&G would not allow the guy to tag it, then they cut the horns off, and left the carcass to rot on the shoreline.

Yet another wasted trophy bull from the nuclear site...
