Looking for information hunting cow elk in Vernal Ut. We are leaving next week, to hunt. The area is called three corners, never been, won the hunt in a raffle. Talked to a biologist, didn't seem like he wanted to talk. Any information where to hunt, lodging. Thanks Mike

3 corners is about 50 miles north of Vernal..
Goslin mountain always has some elk on it.. Thats my suggestion anyways.

G-6 hunt seen bucks nothing big, got to hunt with Robert one day, opening day. Was headed back up on Thursday morning, & Bill called me Weds. night saying the Robert had killed one that evening. It was small 19 inches wide three pointer. It was funny talking to Robert, he said it look alot bigger before he shot it, I laugh knowing that we all have been there before. I had heard there two nice bigs killed by true meadow, haven't heard any size just yet, but I know the guy, so I will find out. Other than that I haven't heard of any big bucks killed, but then again you don't hear everything. I know that they one foot of snow at the 8000 ft. Sat. Other than that, thats it. Mike

Yeh it isn't very close to Vernal at all.

Lodging/eats/fuel at Flaming Gorge lodge and down at the '66' station by the Little Hole road turn off.

They winter along 191 after you get thru Dutch John, Little Hole turn off for the Green River all along the burn area and going back north at the '66' gas staion, back on 191 along the Antelope Flats area down to the boat ramp....

Or is that a Conocco station Nate? red and white signs...anyways..

Keep in mind when ya go thru Minnies Gap that your are in Wyoming now and after you turn right-east at Minnies Gap, you are still in Wyoming until you get back on the pavement in Utah on your way over to Goslin and the Clay Basin area.

Wouldn't hurt to have a set of tire chains with you....I was over there this last saturday--- glare ice is the road cover!! ha

Watch for some real nice Rams...

Where ya coming in from?

Robb

Lake Isabella , CA. Solid ice that should be alot of fun, looking foward to seeing some new country. What is glare ice, is it the same as black ice? Thanks for the informaton. Mike

Just drive up on the mountain until you find one.

I live in the Basin, and have spent quite a bit of time in three corners. I may be able to help you out, either with information or depending on when you come by tagging along. Depending on the weather, it could be easy or a pain. I'm always looking for an adventure. I'm not to computer literate, but I think my email address is available here. Let me know what you think. Pleasedear's advice looks like a good start.

Have no idea how to get your email, I am not much better. We will be leaving either Tuesday or Wensday after Christmas. It will take about 11 1/2 hrs to get there, not even sure where we are staying, we will wait till we get there. My email is [email protected] if you have time to tag alone great. Thanks Mike

Not sure which way you are coming down.... I-84?

If you stay on the freeway to Rock Springs Wyo., drop south on rt. 191..... you can have a look-see at the Wyo. elk units 30/31/32 and the deer unit 102.....

Fuel is like .30 cheaper a gallon in Wyo. than Utah or Idaho.

When Ya hit Minnies Gap going south at the border of Wyo./Utah your 3-Corners unit starts a pinch south of the Gap and depending on the time of day you come thru..... cow down!! ha Watch for elk heads in the sagebrush along there... they bed thru that area both sides of 191.....

11-12 hour drive with this weather!! Your living a very good life! ha

Lots of fun - see my post on the ML board called Jackknife Bull - In short I looked over many of the bulls on the unit apx 400 head of elk during the hunt. Ended up shooting a smaller bull than I wanted due to some dumb events. Never did see the bulls on BearTop, but did follow their migration north to the lake, just ran out of time that day.

The EU looks good, just got it back from Springville meats, not bad for $125.

Now I need to figure out what to do with 14 points in CO and 1 point short of max in OR. Still lots of elk to kill.

Reads good Steve.

I've been up on BARETOP twice in the last 4 years durning the end of the Ram tag hunt dates and never saw a single elk up there.

They bail off after the rifle elk hunt dates..probably run off by hunters!

Nothing over by Willow Creek or Beaver Creek huh...

I spent last weekend at Red Canyon Lodge - I must say it's much nicer than FG lodge, for the price it's worth it. Only 10 min drive to FG Lodge.

Was thinking I should be helping someone kill a cow, looked over several from the road with the kids.

I hope you did well on the hunt, anyone who is willing to drive as far you guys did should have a fun hunt.

Hand down Red Canyon Lodge is way nicer... a little pricier but those are some real dumps at Flaming Gorge Lodge.... we did the 'condo gig' one year on the old ML300 tag... geeezzzz talk about a scam! and those rooms up top of the road are paper thin walls......

I saw 2 guys at the gas station with Cali plates and wondered if it was these fellow's heading over.... pure chance of course...

BacDoc ya spend much time over in the Diamond Mnt. area?

LE bow bull worth it from your experience?

Thanks,

Robb

Robb, I've spent alot of time on parts of Diamond Mt. Helped kill several bulls and cows the last 6 years. I've only been involved with 2 bow hunts. There's lots of private ground controlled by outfitters. You have to do your homework to find access to public. I think the best bow hunting would be around water down low (mostly private), but I'm not an archery expert. It depends on what kind of bull you're after also. Very unlikely to kill a "monster". From what I've seen over the years it's similar to 3 corners as far as Elk quality. I'd be glad to talk more offline. BacDoc
