It should. I see people post about how the DWR doesnt have a clue about this or that, while people are intentionally giving bogus data. That is as unethical as using a chute plane in my book. Hopefully you are just kidding on this, otherwise I dont want any more lectures about ethics from someone who is unethical themself. Think about it.

I never got any information on my 2005 bull. In September of 06 I sent an email to the DWR and they got the information to me.

I sent mine in a few years ago and they said they'ld send me a card with the data, they never did so I called and they said they would again and never did. I like to know for sure but at 382" he was old enough, 7-8 I'd guess.

Maybe it's time for mandatory reporting??? I can't beleive people would be that unethical. I guess it is okay to falsify teeth but not ride a 4 wheeler or shoot a doe or cow?
I am sure this happens, I just doubt it is that frequent. I would hope people would not be that messed up.

Your distain for the DWR is well documented, and it seems that you regularly refer to them as being the enemy to all hunters.
I am one who believes they are doing their very best, but it is an impossible job to "please everyone, all the time"!!!
My son is in his second year of studying wildife management, and he loves to hunt. His influence would be good in the agency, but the more I read from dissatisfied, disagreeable, hunters, (and the more I look at the DWR's meager pay scale) the more I want to encourage him to go into something else.
Their response to elk units is directly related to the responses they receive in RAC meetings.
The point I make is that I think they(DWR) are doing the best they can, given the games they have to play, and the number of different opinions they have to address.
That's my humble oppinion---for what it is worth.

The drop in deer numbers has wildlife biologists scratching their heads in every western state. Not just Utah. Most of their studies that I have read conclude that the problem has something to do with habitat loss, poor food sources, and a few severe winters. That is not anything that they have immediate control over.
I, like you, have seen lots of hunting seasons come and go, and I am frustrated that the good old days of mule deer hunting don't seem to be coming back like we think they should. And yes, if all they had to do is manage deer, one would think that the deer herds would turn around with good managment. But they have way more pressure on what they do than just us hunters!
I just don't think there are a lot of quick answers that the DWR has control over in order to fix the problem.
Every time they try to make changes, some group get's POed! For example:
If they were to close hunting for a few years, they would have ranchers and family hunters screaming.
If they try to limit land development, they have landowners down their throats.
And if they try to deal with a bull/cow ratio to improve elk herds, they have disgruntled hunters who want an elk tag every year on their back.
It's a thankless-no win job and I am beginning to feel that I don't want my son to have to be a part of it.
Money in any state agency, has to be a part of their decision making. Especially in Utah, because there is so little of it to go around. But to say that money drives their management decisions is way over-simplifying the issue. Without resources, they can't pay to manage anyting.

How did this turn into a deer thread? That is ok though, the Utah deer herd sucks and I do not care what fishon says.;-) He got a killer caribou, maybe he should get a Utah caribou tag. He will do as well as 99% of the trophy deer hunters in Utah.
I also hope Peay gets involved. Maybe he can turn the ship around? He is thick enough skinned to take the abuse from the forky killers. There is always Wyoming and Colorado bess. I am taking Don's advice and go to Colorado........deer hunting!
I can understand why many hunters want a meat buck or a first few bucks, but come on, provide a little trophy animals also. A 180 buck after long days in the field every 10 years or so is all I ask.

Just right bobcat there shouldn't be a doe shot in the state. I still cant see the fun in that. The cars take care of them anyway. I always thought doe's make bucks. I wouldnt even know where to start to gut a doe. (I guess start with the IO brand under the tail.)

I hope that the new committee to search for answers for the mule deer this year will openly look at ALL options regardless of dollars earned etc. We really need to cut back harvest on these deer for awhile. Yes, I said it. I actually said we need to Lose opportunity. We have surplus elk. We do not have surplus deer.
