How wide?

I saw this buck while coyote hunting the other day, and I was wondering what some of you might estimate his width to be? I know its not too clear, but it was at about 300 yards on the tripod.

He is a shooter! I'd have to put him 29-30" Nice buck thanks for the picture.

The bases of his antlers look like they are floating in mid air. I may be wrong but the picture looks like a fake to me.

Shedaholic,
Are these pics taken off a video? Do you have any other jpgs of this buck from diferent angles. He does look wide but with just a back view it can be very deceiving.

Never, never, never would I guess width from the back, they all look big from the back.

DAMN

THEM BIGGER BUCKS LOOK NICE FROM A TEXAS HEARTSHOT POINT OF VIEW!!!

I ALWAYS FIGURED IF THEIR RUNNING AWAY FROM YOU,DEDUCT ABOUT 10" FROM THE WIDTH THE 'RACK' LOOKS!!!

I CAN'T REALLY TELL IF PAM ANDERSON'S 'RACK' LOOKS BIGGER FROM THE BACK,I CAN'T GET MY EYES THAT HIGH!!!

THE ONLY bobcat STARING AT NICE 'RACKS'!!!

BCBOY, yes the picture was taken with my digital camcorder. I dont really have any good shots of him from the front but here are a couple more.

shed,
Those last links won't work.
Try going to your storage bin, click on the pic you want to post, let it come up, right click on the pic, click on properties, copy the URL address and then paste into your post.
Here's the first pic

Definately is a big mature 3 point ain't he. Really hard to guess on the width. If you are one that likes width and has that as a goal in a buck, the best bet is always aim low with your guess. I'm thinking he's probably more than 26 but I don't know if he'll make 30. Hopefully you will be able to see him again and get some better views of him.

Real hard to tell from the back.
I know how easy it is to over estimate the width.
Recently I thought I had a slug muley glassed and filmed from over 1/2 a mile. Seriously thought he was in the mid-thirty range.
Upon another check and within fifty yards he turned out to be a high racked 27 inch or so buck.
Try and find him again and get closer. It's the only way to be sure.
Best,
Jerry

Shedaholic,

Sorry about the fake comment, the other pictures are good enough to convince me. The first picture just looked suspicious because it didn't look like the bases of the antlers were attached to the deer.

Below is a picture of a 25" three point I shot this past fall. I was able to get a good look at him from several different angles for 10 minutes at a distance less than 100 yards before I took the shot. I would say that the buck in your picture is definitely much larger than my deer and is wider than 25" by at least a few inches. It is hard to tell from the pictures but I would guess he is somewhere around 28 - 32".

While we're on the subject of 3-pointers, here's one I mounted a couple of years ago. He's not as wide as this one (about 26) but a dang nice one anyway.

BrianID and NMtaxi, those are some fantastic 3pointers you all took. Congrats!

You all are very right, it is so difficult to judge a buck from behind even if his ears are straight out. One thing I do know is that he is the biggest 3pt I have ever filmed and he looks fantastic on video.

I think he would be really close to the 30" mark he might be a little above or a little below but he is close to.
