I am looking for a few elk calls.. I am a beginner and I am looking for some suggestions... I am looking at Wayne Carltons bugle and fightin cow call... anyone want to steer me in one of the many right directions.. thanks

The Primos Hoochie Mama is a great call for a beginner. I also like their hyper lip calls as well. Any call can be a good call if used right. Practice, practice, practice, with whatever you choose, and you will do well...

I got the Primos "lead cow and calf " call and once you get it to make noise :), it's fairly easy to master. Sounds real good too!

If you can get good with a diaphram thats great if not the Hoochie mama has 3 different calls on it and all it requires is a push on the rubber ball, use all three calls one after another to imitate a group of elk, if you're not comfortable with your bugling then just use the cow/calf call, also , I carry the Hoochie in my leg cargo pant pocket and use it every 5 minutes or so when I'm sneaking thru the woods, it will calm them down enough for you to get a look at them.good luck

If you're a beginner, I'd also suggest considering buying an instructional tape or two. I'd recommend one's by Ed Sceery. A couple titles I've learned from are Elk Vocalization and Cow talk. They have just audio versions as well and I think you can buy the Sceery calls with tapes in a pack (probably at Cabelas or similar) I also like the Sceery cow calls and found them very consistant although I usually carry 4 or 5 cow calls with me. I'm not big on bugling but use one occasionally. Good Luck!

Was reading a Eastman's mag this morning at the barber shop and saw where Primos has a new call for Elk but don't remember what the thing was called.
