Colorado Preference Points; Antlerless only?

Up to this year, I've been piling up pref. points in Colorado for my dream hunt of a big bull elk someday. This year when you get to the "shopping cart" part of their website, the preference point is titled "Non Res Antlerless elk application"?

Does anyone know if this is just a typo or did I just apply for a pref. point for a cow tag and not a bull tag????

I would say, you made a mistake. If your after a big bull, skip Colorado. Utah,NM,NV,AZ,WY, all have better quality. Good luck

to my understanding an I am a resident here in colo. a elk preferance point is just that a elk preferance point it doesnt matter if its female or male. it is just per species not gender specific. thats why the code you put in should have looked something like Ep-ppp-pp. correct?

My guess is that is said anterless elk application because they will be charging your credit card for the cost of an antlerless elk tag, which is less than a bull tag, untill they give you your refund and preference point. Colorado does not have seperate points for different animal genders.

Familyman is correct. When applying for points only they ding you for the cow tag cost and not the bull tag cost. I noticed this a couple of years ago and called to verify and was told that is correct.

Well how many points got? In my opinion Colorado absolutely has some big bulls. In units 1 2 201 10 61 76 40 and the southern part of the state around Trinadad.

free,

huntin100 gave some good advice in my eyes. I think Wyoming has great bulls at better draw odds and a lot more choices. NM has better quality with better odds and no point system. Nevada does not use preference points rather a weighted bonus point system with bigger bulls. Arizona has better bulls but tough to draw and expensive. Utah has better bulls but tough to draw, but you have a chance with a bonus/preference system.

Coloradoboy is right, but everyone wants those units he listed and the quality is subpar to other states in general. I have 12 points for elk and it just isn't getting any closer to draw. I may have to get a 61 bow tag so I can spend my points. Won't shoot one, but I may draw?;-)

I would trade all 12 of my elk points for 3 deer points. Seriously!

Thanks, gentlemen! Just didn't know if this was somethin new or not on the pref point (that you could get one for bull or antlerless or who knows what). So I applied to the correct code, guess that's the deal, you git a point but they call it an antlerless so you don't get dinged for the cost of a bull tag.

Thanks again, men....

Hunters, I know that this question has been asked probably many times before and I missed the answering process. If I would have 4 preference points for Colorado and I apply for a cow elk muzzleloader tag this time (3 preference points will secure a cow elk muzzle loader permit in unit 61) will I forfeit that fourth point or will the Colorado DOW allow me to keep this point? Anyone know the system here? Thank you in advance. CowTag from southern Illinois.

ditto what ktc said...point banking was tried one year (?) then abandoned....why? I dunno...
