Does anyone out there have any positive feedback for me on the Soapstone Area on the Mirror Lake Hwy? I know it is a high traffic area during the regular season but we will be there during the rut in September. Any help would be appreciated.

Im sorry I dont have any good news for you, like you I was hoping there was some guys on here that would help you because I havent been there much and was wondering about the area.

I used to hunt that area but I was closer to hanna. there are some nice bulls by hanna but you have to hunt by the reservation try big ridge or hell hole or blind stream area these areas are all on the map around hanna hope this helps

I have been on a deer hunt in Hell Hole area and only saw elk. Defiantly a good possibility.

In the North West corner of the unit there are some elk. This is between Nobletts Creek and Pine Valley. There is a trail that drops into Nobletts Creek on the West fork near highway 35. There is another short road West of Nobletts Creek. This drainage is called Log Hollow. We found some horse hunters camped at the end of this road. We came in from the top and went West of this drainage. I found a hurd of 20 cows in this area nearly got a shot at one during an archery hunt. There is one water hole up on top but they sometimes go down the drainages for water. There were some moose there also. I found elk beads on the West side of the mountain near Pine Valley. I think they go down this side for water also.

I ran into a bull once during a muzzle loader dear hunt in this same area. He was bugleing like crazy but we never got a look at him. He was between the West fork of Nobletts Creek and Log Hollow just above a flat area on the map.

Hope this helps. These high traffic units are hard to hunt. You have to fine the out of the way places.

go up blind steam to the catle gard. park just past it. indian. then walk back acrossed it and head up that trail. its an old spannish miners trail that leads up threw a cliffy kind a spot. then once on top turn left and go to north side of fence. back on forrest. its ok to walk this trail. leads up into squaw hollow.back side of log hallow.

Make sure you dont hunt south of the fence. That would be my land. Red Rock.

yup your land. not mutch that dirrection right now. once on top turn to your north or left and head up toward the quakes. i like dry ridge better than dry mountain. tuff hike but we both know why i like it. i used to hunt squaw every yr. then some guys on whelers started to sneek in on the old logging road that comes from the south off the rock creek road.

Hey dry mountain... I think its rather funny how you red rock boys post the heck out of ur property, but if you shoot a bear in the middle of the archery elk hunt you have no problem riding ur Razor's up through ur fence and in to forest ground to retrieve it. Three different years I have had bulls chased off by ur hounds, and once from the guy on the Razor riding throug a meadow at primetime for elk. As for my hunting buddies and I we no longer respect ur da@# fences or signs!
Now as for the youth hunter, the elk were in hell hole early, but they are now all in red rock on the farm creek side. Its nasty country, we havent spent much time on the blind stream side this year, but the government trail always has some elk in it, (larsen hallow) or the old saw mill area. its best access is by horse back if possible. Once again red rock has the access road on their property.
