a guy at work was telling me it is an ok spot to hunt elk for an open bull area.ihave spent the last few weeks in that area and have not seen any elk and hardly any sign.it looks to be way overhunted with all the roads up there. i know i am new to this sight but any info would help and i am stoked i stumbled onto this site

RE: whitney reservoir Utah

I don't have extensive knowledge of the whitney area but I have hunted there a few times. My opinion to many sheep grazing through the summer, to many people during hunting season, to much private property surrounding the area.

RE: whitney reservoir Utah

lonetree said it right that place has to much traffic during the summer and during the hunts.it does look like some good elk country but the elk are simply not there, and the winter range for the elk around that area sucks not enough of it.i spend alot of time in the north and south slope of the uintas and that is one of the last places i would go to try to find elk

RE: whitney reservoir Utah

what about across the road looks like alot more country and fewer people

RE: whitney reservoir Utah

There is a guy named Tracy out there telling everyone and there dog that there are elk up at Whitney. Like previously stated to much traffic during the summer. You are probably getting this info through the long line of people talking. Shoot me a pm if you are planning on hunting the OB unit.

RE: whitney reservoir Utah

I used to bowhunt deer up there. I would typically find elk during the summer scouting sessions (prehunt). Quite a few of them actually. The largest I ever saw were a couple of raghorn 6 points. But once bow season started, I never saw another elk, a lot of traffic back then during the bowhunt though, not sure how it is now. I sent someone up there during the rifle hunt to where I saw the elk, they never saw an elk, not even a cow. So that is my experience for whatever it is worth.
