I have two points, not a lot I know, but was thinking of trying for a decent unit - are there any with that few of points. Also, has anyone here hunted the early season, high country hunts? How good are those hunts?

I would try Unit 65 Should plenty of public ground to hunt and even some private that offer tresspass fees. The high country hunts are great if you can spend the time to locate the buck. The deer are spread out and usually not plentiful, but in my opinion that is where the biggest bucks are. Got to be in good shape to cover those big mountains too. Hope I helped a little. Should be able to draw with 1 or 2 points, I'm sure.

Sneakum is right on. HCB hunts are great but if you can't put a lot of time into scouting they suck. You can draw a few HCB hunts but they either have few deer or ton's of hikers and trails that will make you nervous about shooting a rifle. I hunted unit 47 a few years back. Saw some nice deer but I didn't scout at all during the summer so I kind of blew it. Good luck in where ever you decide.

Actually, he does have a website, just slightly differnt from the above link because it is actually Antlerquest1: http://members.aol.com/antlerquest1/myhomepage/business.html

You might get lucky and get drawn for a High country early rifle hunt with 2 points, but it is not very likely. However, you could get a muzzy tag and hunt the same country the very next week just about anywhere but the premier units. Something to think about. If you decide to do a high country hunt, Deerking is definately your man.

Here is a link to find out how many points it takes to get drawn for each hunt: http://wildlife.state.co.us/huntrecap/

Figure out the hunt codes for the early hunts and check out how many tags, how many applied, and how many points they had. For instance: Unit 471. DM471E1R (deer/male/unit471/early rifle). Remember that nonresidents can only get 40% of the tags. 22 tags available. 40% would be 9 tags. You would have had a 50% chance of gettin drawn with 2 points. However, most high country units take more points.
