Has anybody hunted this park in colorado, anybody know any good insight on the area. Thanks for anything you got. CC

Would not reccomend it. You have to pay to get in and you also have to check in with the ranger when you arrive. You are not allowed to hunt on the Park but can access the Dome Rock SWA from it. We hunted there last year and the ranger told us they had killed a bull during bow season and that was the only one harvested in the 4 years he worked there. There are elk in there but it would be extremely hard to get one packed out unless you had horses. PM me if you would like more details.

Man that is not good news that a guy wants to hear on a monday mornin. o well it is good to know though, thanks for that info. Any other ideas on maybe were to go??? How do you pm?

I also hunted there about 10 yrs ago. Did preseason scouting, talked to the rangers about the local herd. I was all fired up. I failed to ask more specific questions, such as "am I limited to where I can hunt?" On opening day I was handed a map of where I was allowed to hunt. It did not include the areas where there were elk. I was a little miffed. I can understand not hunting near the campsites and main areas. It was partially my fault due to assuming since it was a state park that allowed hunting I would be allowed to hunt the majority of the park. There are lots of elk in the area just not very easy to get to. There is also lots of private property near there. Good luck if you decide to go there.
