Guys

I am going to take out my 264 Mag to shoot and get sighted in. It is a new gun to me so I want to start out right.

My question is what round bullet is best for the 264 Mag

120, 125 or 140 which one shoots the best out of the 264 Mag.

I will eventually reload for this gun. But for right now just to go shoot what do you recommend

Any help will be appreciated

MM member Marley has done some reloading with the 264 ,send him a message or maybe he will post on this.

IMO to get the full benefit of the .264 mag you need to shoot the heaviest bullet you can get to shoot well. For a factory load I would try the HSM Trophy Gold with the 140 grain Berger VLD. Some people hate Berger Bullets, other's love them. I've always had good luck with Berger. I've heard very good reports about Hornady's ELD-X bullets too. Not sure if there is a factory load for them.

And....................!

What You Trying to Accomplish with it?

Vaporize a Coyote?

Or Put a Buck on the Ground?

Back Me Off to 1,700 Yards,650 is a Little Close & I'm Not Comfortable with it!

A GUT SHOT at 1,700 Yards will Still Make Some Good BRAGGIN Rights so I Can Say I At Least Hit Him!

I want to use this gun on Antelope and Blacktail deer. Smaller big game I use my .338 for everything else.
I was just wondering as I know there are certain bullets for each gun that shoot better than others.
like 160 Grain is the best for an 30.06, never had an 264 so I am not sure what it is capable of.
Knock down power or super flat long range just hoping some MM's know this gun better than I do.

Me thinks your question is too vague.

There is no "best" for every rifle even in the same cartridge. The sooner you realize they have their own personality the better.

With that said, if your twist is like 1 in 8" (maybe 9 twist at mag velocities) then I'd opt for a high BC 143 ELD-X but YOUR rifle might not like them even if twist is right. Slower twists USUALLY demand a shorter (lighter) bullet like 120-130 range.

For hell sakes man, start to reload for it!

Play around to find what your's shoots.

If you hunt above 5000' then even a 9 twist barrel will stabilize a 140 vld type bullet. My 264 hasnt' been too finicky with bullets, 140 accubonds and 140 Bergers both shoot great. My current load is 65 grs RL26 with a 140 Berger, 3100 fps and 1/2 MOA. Just about any factory load out of that gun will smoke any Deer that ever walked, so don't sweat it too much!

Thanks Zeke I appreciate your advice. I inherited from my uncle and I am not sure of the twist. I do know he built this with Fred Barnes and they did this barrel together.
I'll try the 125's I bought and then get some 140's to compare and see how both shoot.

Yes you are right I need to start reloading my son and I have been saying this for a while. With this gun it is time to start
