I'm not a stuffed shirt but I think Phil should have been Disqualified for that. I'm a golfer and have been a member of the USGA for 30 years and worked at several US Opens. I understand his frustration with the greens getting out of hand Saturday but he shouldn't have done that. I think the only reason he didn't get disqualified was because the USGA new they blew it on the setup.

Phil knew his first putt was real slippery and he obviously intentionally hit it too hard, so I feel he did it intentionally. It's the US Open. I feel like he was mocking the set up.But it still cracked me up.

larrbo, when does the two stroke penalty apply, as opposed to disqualification? He certainly wasn't trying to hide it or cheat. He said he was intentionally taking the penalty strokes. I'm curious as to your thoughts.

The two strock penalty should apply when your ball moves when you are taking a swing or putt. So if a ball starts moving in your backswing and you strike the ball while moving it's a penalty. Phil purposely hit a moving ball to keep it from running off the green and thats flagrant. Again i think they let Phil off the hook.

Thanks larrbo. I agree, now that you explained it. I've watched Phil for many years and that sure seems out of character for him. The one major he lacks is the US Open, so I'm sure he was really frustrated, and he came charging back on Friday for a spell, then fell apart on the back 9.
