Wasatch Muzzleloader Elk 2017

I drew the Wasatch Muzzleloader tag this year and am very excited to come to Utah and hunt Elk. I'm from Wrstern Oregon and have chased Rosie's my whole adult life. My plan is to come early, to my hunt, to do as much scouting as possible. It's a big unit and I haven't seen any of the country so I was hoping someone cold point me in the right direction to find a bull. I always try to avoid big crowds and will go the extra mile to find a good bull. Any help would be appreciated.

There is a place called ty fork that has some good elk in it years ago. But be in for a hike. Good luck

I'd take a good look at the DWR's new hunt planner. It's got some real good unit summaries by the local biologists. All of the info in there is real solid.

I agree. I was hoping to find an area with fewer people even if it meant fewer elk. I'll keep researching and maybe I'll find a spot. It does look like I'll be able to go over and look at the country in early August. That way I'll at least have a feel for the country.

Here is a pic of some bulls on the wasatch from last year. I had the muzzy tag in 2012 and killed a 350 bull and may be able to help you with some areas to hunt

Never been there but I'm rooting for your success as I am an Oregon boy too and plan on drawing a utah tag one day!! Good luck I hope you keep us informed on how your hunt goes.
