I've been down on the Boulder scouting this year and haven't been able to find the number or size of bulls that I have seen in the past. Have any of you had a similar experience?

They've Took a Hell of a Hit the last few years!

Lol they will kill giants again this year. Boulder is one of the hardest units to scout during summer. Just because you don't see them, doesn't mean they are not there.

I have hunted the unit for elk for the last 10 years and I know what it has been and what it looks like now. Something is different. I hope you are right, however.

Anybody else been on the Boulder this year?

I was down for the full week of June 19th - 23rd and saw some good bulls. Nothing huge and not a lot of elk overall, but some good bulls. It didn't seem any different to me than in years past. The elk I did see were where they always are this time of year.

Saw quite a few deer as well.

I'm going down the weekend of the 21st, to do some looking and some fishing. I gave a muzzle loader deer tag, I'll share any info of any bigger bulls.

Boulder produced 5+ 400" bulls last year, and there will be giants killed again this year. Still plenty of big bulls on the mountain and one of the best units in the state.

If you are seeing less bulls and something is going on, you can blame it on the cow slaughter.

had a cat tag on the boulder this spring and saw plenty of elk and a few really nice bulls that had made it through the hunts. There will be plenty of bulls again this year and I would bet that this year will top the last few on the number of 400"+ bulls killed.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-09-17 AT 07:38PM (MST)[p]Tons of good to BIG bulls down there around every corner when I was there mid June...Not sure where youre looking but they are out there

Check my post "velvet dreams" all boulder bulls that were in close enough for my camera

Cowboy don't get discouraged, checked my cams last week and found some dang good bulls! Now if they would just stay put until mid September!! Yeah Right!!!

I have been on the Boulder two more times looking and scouting for elk. I see elk and good bulls, just not what I have seen in previous years and what I expect. I know the Boulder is tough and the elk move, but it has a different feel.

I wonder if they have been giving too many tags?

Hey cowboy,
they may be on a different part of the mountain right now.
The unit I got the trail camera pictures from,

http://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/DCForumID12/17060.html

usually doesn't have many elk in that area during the summer but it's loaded with them this year.
Last year I was seeing a lot of bucks in the same area but this year the bucks are gone and the elk have moved in.

Get ready for change because it's going to happen!
