LAST EDITED ON Dec-16-13 AT 08:09PM (MST)[p]Anyone know much about the White Lightning model? How it would compare to a Super 91, and what would a decent one be worth. From Doc White's website it notes that none ever came back due to inaccuracy but I know very little about Whites. It does have a shorter barrel (22") so I'd assume you may not be able to use as much powder but I'm not sure that it would be significantly different or a factor to consider.

I have owned three Lightnings, and eventually sold them all as I have half a safe of Whites in the Whitetails, UltraMags and S91s. (I also have three of Doc's shotguns as well...)

The Lightnings I had shot just as well as any of the others, but there is one caveat: the stocks are birch, and they WILL split through the wrist fairly easily. The guys I learned from said to drill a 5/16" hole through the wrist (being careful not to penetrate the grip) and epoxy a 1/4" bolt into the wrist. At that point you are good to go, but I would suggest bedding the action as well. Birch is just not all that strong.

As for value, a clean one will probably draw somewhere around $300. That was their price new...
