Best under $400

Don't own one, but hear good things about CVA Optima V2. They are in your price range. The accura V2 would be a step up, but over your price point

I shoot a cva Acura v2. Got my son a cva optima for b day. With scope mount, stainless, black syn stock. Shot it for first time this morning. Accurate as mine. Easy load, twist out breach all same as mine. Stock not quite as nice. But I paid double for the accura.

Paid $240 for it, sling, 3x9 cabelas brand scope still under $400.
Go optima, you won't regret it at all.

Years ago I said I would never own a CVA so I bought a TC Omega. I kept it a few years but never warmed up to it. It wasn't accurate and felt clunky in my hands. I sold it and went against my biased opinion and bought a stainless CVA Optima V2. Turns out all the good things I read about it are true - I really like it. I looked at the Acura V2 also but the stock on the Optima felt much better to me.

The CVA Accura V2 is not very much above your buying price. I have two Accura V2's...one with the long barrel topped with a scope and the other is my Colorado weapon with open sights. I think that they are about as good as a hunter needs.

Shop around. You should be able to find an Accura for under $400. I couldn't be happier with mine. I feel like it's an extension of my right hand. Deadly accurate and I have full confidence in it. It has never let me down on several mule deer and a bull elk. Mine shoots really well with Barnes 250 grain TMZ bullets. My brother has an Optima and he shoots it really well too. Ultimately get whatever feels best when you shoulder it, and fits your budget. Good luck.

CVA is what I have but that seems to fit Colorado best. I think it depends what ya intend to hunt and which state.

saddling up anyway."

The Knight should be fine, but don't buy the Triumph if you think you ever might want to shoot conicals. For instance, if you ever think you might hunt in Colorado. T/C rifles with a QLA on the end of the muzzle won't reliably shoot conicals. Even T/C will tell you that.

CVA ACCURA II

I Prefer the Remington Ultimate!

But for a 500.00 Gun I'd have to go with the CVA ACCURA 2!

LOL!

Ya!

Maybe they'll start Selling them for 200.00!

I didn't realize Knight still made the Wolverine until I clicked on GoexB's link. I've had two for over 20 years with excellent results, using 300 grain sabot bullets and 100 gr of powder. Never grouped well with lighter bullets though. They are also light and easy to carry.

Knight makes a kit to upgrade them to use 209 primers.

The link mentions 200 yard groups. Mine are very flat from 50-100 yards, but fall off quickly after 125 yards. Maybe the newer ones handle more powder.

Good luck!

Want to thank everyone for all your info, i bought the Optima used from a friend of a friend. He is upgrading, i am going to put a Leupold 3x9 42mm on, then head to the range with ammo and see how much powder with bullet will work best. I'm open for what you would start with as far as powder and bullet grain. Thanks again.

fallguy took the exact words out of my mouth! I own a couple and most wereT/Cs and have had some good hunts with them , but a few years back I came across the CVA Optima and bergera barrel. This little smoke pole is dead on golden to 200 yards, I put a nikon on it and love this jewel of a smoke pole. I sold all my T/C black diamonds except an older thumbhole with #11 ignition that is my first muzzle loader and shoots very very solid....I still want a T/C Pro hunter tho....

Powder and bullet depends on what you will be hunting and if sabots are allowed. I assume they are because most places that allow scopes will allow sabots. I use only conicals but when I get picked for Utah, will switch to Barnes sabot bullets

Good luck and have fun! There's another post on here about the Barnes bullets. Never used them, but post was positive.

Regarding powder, where legal, pellets are easier than loose. But loose allows more fine tuning.

I have to agree with a lot of the folks on this thread. For the price the CVA Accura V2 is a great gun. Optima is a good option too. I owned a CVA about 15 years ago. It was junk. I switched to a Traditions and it was a little better but the best I could do was 5 inch groups at 100 no matter the powder/bullet combo. I took the advice of the guys here at MM and went back to CVA, I picked up an Accura V2 from Cabelas. Its an amazing gun. I can almost get a 3 shot group to touch at 100.

290 Barnes T-EZ
100 grains BH209 by volume
CCI magnum primers.

bergy is Right!

I Started out with a CVA 40 years ago!

Swore I'd never Ever Buy another POS CVA Again!

But they Changed their Ways!

That's about How Mine Shoots at a 100 Yards also Bergy!

I Fired 10 Shots at a 100 Yards last Fall & 7 out of the 10 were touching each other!

No,I'm Not Sayin a Quarter Would Cover them!:D

It Won't Be Long and a 22" PISSCUTTER will be known as a Trophy that will be put on the Wall!

FWIW, just picked up an Accura V2 black and stainless, with a normal stock, not thumbhole, for $349 from Sportsmans. We shall see how she shoots.
