I not only received all my refunds in the mail today, but also got my "leftover" permit for the Nov. 28 season in 36B. Anyone else draw that one? -TONY

Hi Bill,

My son and I will be heading down early Thanksgiving Day and will likely set up camp somewhere in the Warsaw Canyon area. Not quite sure where yet, but I plan to make a trip down there the week befoe the hunt to find a decent spot and do a bit of scouting.

We'll be camped in my homemade tent in the photo below. It's hard to miss it since it's probably the only silver tent in AZ. :) So if you wander by, stop in and and have cold one.

Tony,
I will be heading down a few days before the hunt to hopefully locate something. Haven't mentioned to the wife yet about missing Thanksgiving. I'm not sure about where we are going to stay yet. I'll be looking for you, it would be great to meet you. Besides a few trips to southern NM, your book is about all the coues expierence I have.

Take care,
--Bill

Bill,

My wife didn't even know I had applied for one of the leftover permits, but she did know we didn't get drawn for the Kaibab on the first go-round. So when I broke the news to her over dinner Friday night with "don't expect Keith and I to be at Thanksgiving dinner," she immediately said, "And why's that?"

But, she knows enough that nothing much matters when I schedule a hunt. She learned that early on, too.

We got married on a Sat., and she had to be back to work on Tues. So we had a short honeymoon at a nice resort in northern NJ. On Tues. I left to hunt deer in the Adirondacks in NY state for four days. :)

And that's about how it's been for the past 47 years with her. -TONY

Tony, congrats.........that should be a fun hunt, I hunted it a couple years back for my son on the junior hunt. Lots of people but there are some good bucks in there. Casey, I know Duwane wont be there, he will be up on the Kaibab for the late hunts............. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

LAST EDITED ON Aug-31-08 AT 11:29AM (MST)[p]Casey,

See the email I just sent to your AOL address.

Allen,

I didn't realize that late Nov. hunt was done before in 36B. I thought it was one of the new seasons. That said, I think it will be nearly as good the later Dec. hunt.

I haven't hunted there in about 6 years, but I have a pretty good idea where we'll concentrate our efforts.

The best thing about getting the leftover was being able to retain our BPs for a Kaibab permit next year! -TONY

Guys--

Not to snoop but are those always leftover units/tags? I drew 34A late last year and the rut wasnt in swing so I think your hunt will be very similar. I would love to have either as a fall-back hunt next year. PM me if you want.

GOOD LUCK!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-28-08 AT 06:55AM (MST)[p]That late Nov. hunt with that many permits initially available was new this year, and there were lots of leftovers that lasted over a week.

I don't expect it to be much better or any worse than the later hunt in Dec.

How To Hunt Coues Deer

Tony,
We will be staying at the campsite outside Arivaca. I'll sure try to make it down by the Warsaw area, after all the information I've picked up from your posts and book the least I could do is buy you a cold one. I just hope there are a few bucks left.

Later,
--Bill
