Unit 35B is my choice this year. Never hunted this unit before but looking forward to the opportunity to see a new area. It looks like the unit has gotten some good rain this year and I hope this will help the overall hunt. I've been told to lock all my stuff up before I leave camp sounds like good advise. I plan on doing a scouting trip there to get a feel for the area. Any comments of this unit would be-helpful. 886

LAST EDITED ON Aug-05-11 AT 01:50PM (MST)[p]Which hunt did you get? As far as coues country it is great. One of my favorite units, from the ocotillo flats, to the steep nasty canyons in the Patagonias the deer are in it all, just depends on what terrain you want to hunt.

As far as the Illegal activity I would say that it is mostly Drug running. We see guys packing dope every year and sometimes they are armed. A guy damned sure needs to pay attention down there.

which hunt did you get - i got a left- over early hunt- give me a pm - know some of the area - been quite a few yrs though- mm

LAST EDITED ON Aug-14-11 AT 10:46AM (MST)[p] Those are some great bucks. I drew for the Oct 21-27 hunt (hunt number 1129). I'll need to lock everything up down there that part doesn't sound fun.

Thanks...Honestly, if they are going to take anything it will probably be the water and food in your ice chest...Most of them don't want to be caught and try to avoid trucks, camps, etc...But regaurdless We always try and camp close to the road where BP goes by fairly often....doesn't make for the greatest outdoor experience and we have to wake up earlier to get to our spots...but knock on wood we have never had a problem...I am more concerned about stubbling upon a group of mules and their drugs while hunting...So I try my best to avoid that situation...Those guys have their route/trails and move at night and shade up in the day...I try to stay out of the bottoms of canyons and avoid hiking through the thick stuff where they may be hiding out...My gun is ALWAYS by my side!

I had that Oct hunt the last two years...most likely be warm and lots of weekend hunters...you will pretty much have the place to yourself after monday...I would rather hunt the last three day than the first three...let us know how your scouting trip goes

I would think these drug smugglers would limit how far North they travel in the bush until they get a ride. About how far North of the border does this activity occur?

yep i got the same hunt - give me a holler - when ya thkn about goin down thata way

i'll be elk huntin the last week/sept/1st weekend Oct.

15-20 miles as the crow flies pretty easy...Patigonia, Sierra Vista, Sonoita are all about 15 mile north...then there are BP check points with K9s around 20 miles north on all the Highways...Dunno for sure how far they go...

Man not much activity on here! We are planning on a scouting trip for unit 35B in October 12,13. There's not much info on this unit on the net but we will see what we can see on our trip. I like to glass myself and I have a pair of 15 power binoculars just for that purpose. This hunt will be a vacation and I hope I can harvest my first Coues deer come October.
