Just for fun, since we have a little time off before hunting season, What is everyboby's opinion on the best Couse deer unit in the state? Consider all factors, access, trophy quality, hunting pressure, etc. I'll choose unit 27 in Eastern Arizona.
I've killed four couse deer in my life, all came from unit 22, but evberytime I travel over to unit 27, in eastern Az, I see the largest bucks.

Based on all the factors you've listed, plus adding in hunting styles, travel distance and terrain preferences, there may be no best unit. Opinions will be widely scattered. Nice bucks and record bucks seem to come out of a variety of units, as do the forkies. Guess the best unit is what is listed for first choice on the application.

I've had tags in four different units, each has advantages and disadvantages, and have taken good bucks out of each.

Now that I've narrowed down the choices...

I agree with azscouter but I prefer 29 and 30a since that is where I have hunted every year CM

If I could pick the tag, of course it would be a late tag and I would say 33 would be my choice. Since we cant pick, I end up applying for 3rd choice on one of the early hunts that allows me to hopefully draw a tag.....I put in for early 36b this year........ Thanks, Allen Taylor......

LAST EDITED ON Jun-10-05 AT 05:07PM (MST)[p]I have hunted a lot of different areas for Coues, and shot Coues in all of them. I guess I am kinda like Allen T. I put in for my two favorites, then I put in for an early hunt 34b, just to ensure I get drawn. If I could pick, I would choose 24b late hunt. I have shot two really nice Coues in there and I know the area really well.
I cant wait till this years draw to see what lady luck has in store for me.
Allen said 36b for his early hunt, thats one that I have never hunted, although, I have a friend that lives down there and knows the country quite well. Oh well, I will stick to the areas I know.

Just a side note to Matt: Dont shoot anymore "couse", start shooting "Coues".......they taste better than couse couse.........LOL....had to bust your chops........ Allen Taylor......

I must say that my first choice is alway's 36B Dec. We have been very Blesed with taking of 4 bucks over 104. Then my second choice is unit 32 Dec/Nov. which is right out my back door. This unit has given my son and I bucks in 95 pts. These unit require alot of Glassing.

Unit 45!!!!! It has alot of nice Coues bucks in it, great access, no hunting pressure, its a sleeper unit. I have also seen a couple of couse bucks there.

I will agree that unit 45 has in my opinion the largest bucks in the state.

Come on Guys, unit 45 for Coues?!?

Ha Ha, very funny!

IMO, post like these have no place on a site that could be so useful, but gets tainted by all the BS like this.

I don't mind people having a good time on here but pure BS is going a little too far.

For those of you that don't know, Unit 45 Has NO Coues Deer.

Now Mulies, that's another story!

Let's keep it on the up and up folks!

Not sure about Coues Deer in unit 45. Large Mule Deer? Yes!!
For sure it is the best unit for Monkeys, I've seen one or two nice ones in the southern portion of the unit.

unit 33 any season, we have always had good luck here !!!!!
95" 2004, 101" 1974- from the same canyon, 100 yards apart !!!!!
