i dont know about everyone else, but with all the rain and moisture we had this past year, i was really expecting the deer hunting season to be ALOT better! with the hot weather and just over all low numbers of deer, i was very disapointed with the hunt. we usually see 20+ deer a day and on the best day i think i saw 11 deer. so what do you guys think? were you a little disapointed with the quality of the hunt?

I disagree. I noticed better quality deer harvested this year. Bigger coues racks and many that were just jaw dropping. The kind that you see a few of every year but this season seemed like there were plenty more.

It was definately slow and I think that it was due to the warm whether and lack of moisture. The deer are still there and there are some hogs out there. The whether just did not allow them to be out chasing does during the day. We saw some decent bucks but we really had to glass hard for those and the big ones just hang in the shade all day long. I am headed to Sonora tomarrow. Everything that I have heard so far has been that it is slow but the last report I heard was that it is just starting to pick up this past week. I hope it is anyway.

Well, I've been out every other week or so since August and saw lots of deer and lots of bucks. I agree with chef in that alot of big bucks were killed this year. I was talking with a friend that had a bow client, and over 7 days they put stalks on 8 bucks over 105. Saw 10 bucks 95-105 and one monster, they said close to 125. I saw them 3 times last week, hunting the same general area I was and I saw 4-6 bucks usually before noon. (I couldn't hunt afternoons)
It has been very hot but still alot of rutting and lots of deer in the areas I've hunted.

I will have to agree with the earlier posters. The antler growth this year was incredible. About half of the bucks I saw last year on my hunt were spikes. I helped some guys out this year in the exact same spot and in 4 days I saw 30 different bucks. Only 3 - 4 of the bucks were spikes. In the same unit, I know 2 guys that hunted the same area last year that they hunted this year. Last year they couldn't find a buck over 100". This year they both killed over 100" That is why scouting is so important. You need to find the spot where the bigger bucks are before the season starts so you are in the right spot for those first couple of days.

We saw quite a few bucks on our Dec hunt although most were fairly small. We did see a couple 100" bucks and finally closed the deal with 70" and 90" bucks. The full moon didn't help us out too much though. Mike
