Things seem to be pretty slow here on the blacktail forum, so I finally decided to sign up so I could post some pictures. These pics are of my 2003 D13 buck. He is a buck that I've seen the last couple of years. Once while packing out a buck, and a couple of times at last light, and I just couldn't get on him. I killed him on the second weekend of season.
We watched a smaller buck at first light, but he wasn't what we were after. So we continued on our hunt to where this buck hung out. He was already making his way out of the country when I spotted him. I found an opening and took a seat. When he was in an opening I let out a couple of whistles and he stopped and looked back, quartering away. I put a 130 grain ballistic tip out of my 270WSM into him and broke him down at about 250-275yrds. One more shot was required when I got to him. He's not the biggest buck around, but decent for the area. Four pointers are hard to come by around here.Next, I'll send some pictures and a story of my buddie's A-zone buck.

First of all nice deer an good shootin.
I'm from Texas so bear with me on this one.
I'm going to Idaho and noticed on some sites they are refering to black tail deer. What's the difference between a BLACK TAIL AND A MULE DEER??
We have mule deer and white tail in Texas but no black tail??

The blacktailed deer is a smaller subspeices of the mule deer. They roam the ares between western Washington to California. There is another blacktailed deer that is in Alaska called the Sitka Blactailed deer.

The deer that we hunt in D13 and the southern part of the A zone aren't pure blacktail. I believe that they are a species of CA mule deer. They may have some blacktail in them in some areas, from what I've been told. To find pure blacktails you have to go North from where we hunt. (Kern, eastern SLO,eastern SB counties) I'm not sure about the deer on the coast, though.

Pretty buck..very respectable for the area! I've been hunting D13 off and on for 15 years..seen a few bombers, but tough to get them in the pines..you look like you are hunting a little lower than I do..Good job!!
