Hey i was wondering if you or anyone else knows of an official scorer in the Redding area. My best friends dad killed a giant this year and i was wondering what it would score. i am in school in Sac right now but as soon as i get a chance i will try to post pictures. the buck was killed about 45 min west of redding. it is a 3 by 3 24 in inside spread triple eye gaurds on one side. one of the eyegaurds does a fish hook and is about 3 inches long. this buck is a pig. has mass and tine length. i know that three points typically dont score that great but i think it will make the minimum boone and crockett score. please let me know. thanks

I do know a guy in Redding who in an official scorer. As soon as I get his phone number, I'll post it. I can't find it right now, but I will.

Sounds like a great buck! Let me know if you need help posting a picture,

Steve

Hey i figured it out. i wanted to say thanks. i am here with my friend whos dad killed this buck. he said they have a digital camera so we will get some pictures posted. this thing is a pig.

well upon having the buck scored he only went 117 and 3/8 net. about 125 gross. Very nice buck. i thought he was bigger though. next year i will try for a better one

Well lets see some Pic's still sounds like a very nice buck? I have a 3x3 that grossed about 115-1/2" but only neted 109-7/8 P/Y and need to get Steve over to photo it for me to post.

Eel, what can you tell me about non-resident hunting in the Trinity Shasta Wilderness? I read a little in the CA regs, but didn't find what I needed. Any info would help.

Dman,

I assume you're talking about the Shasta/Trinity National Forest? It's mostly in the B zones which are under sold every year. Tags are available OTC to both residents and non-residents. Lots of public land to hunt. That's where I hunt since I live close. I don't always get a buck every year as it's usually hot and dry that time of year. But if you can hunt mid-week and get lucky and get some weather, well you never know. Blacktails don't travel far, they just know how to disappear when they want to!

The Trinity Alps Wilderness area is in the National Forest. People take horses in or hike. I've backpacked/fished in that area, but never hunted.

Here is the link to some bucks that have been taken recently by a friend of mine who hunts this area

I hope this helps.

Thanks much Steve, I mis-spoke, I meant the Trinity Alps. Saw some photos and it looks like great country. Real impressive collection of bucks your friend took. You say they are all Blacktail in that country?
Thanks again, -Darrel

Darrel,

All the bucks in the Trinity Alps, I believe are considered Blacktails. The boundary for Boone&Crockett is "somewhere" to the East of the Alps. I think Hwy. 3. A lot of people think it's I-5 but it's not.

If you get serious about hunting, I would be glad to help in any way possible.
