Is there a way of figuring out how long it will take for 1500 max point applicants to draw out give or take? Is it worth the wait?

Do you feel lucky? well do ya!
TRY LUCKY # 7! IF YOU CAN'T HIT IN 7! MOVE ON!
DEER ONLY!! ELK , SHEEP, AND GOATS ARE A BIT DIFFERANT!
But I feel luck play the biggest role! and I can show you
with proving draws I hit in last seven years here and Outta State!
jack!

Is it worth it? Its argueably the best hunt in the state. How could it not be worth the wait? What else would you put in its place on your application? Its a once- in-a- lifetime hunt...for the most part. I know a guy who drew the tag 3 out of seven years. Some of the bucks he took are awesome. I think its worth the wait. I put in every year as my 1st choice.

So do I but I wonder if I would be better off hoping for weather in g37 or just learning x9a better and hunting that every 3 years. I JUST WONDER IF i CAN WAIT 11 YEARS PLUS FOR A CALI TAG

I dont think you could get X9a every three years unless you were extremely lucky. We used to put in for X-12 consistantly and got drawn once and then not again for the next 6 or 7 years we put in for it. I think X-12 is an easier tag to draw than X9a isnt it? I didnt look at the proclamation about it but thats what I'd think. Anyway, we put G3 first, G37 second and G6 as the third. WHEN we get our unsuccessful letter, we usually just by an A zone tag and hunt locally. I'll put G3 as #1 until I get drawn. Just my two cents.

Just got out the proclamation and it says tag quota for X9A is 790 and the tag quota for X-12 is 815. It doesnt give how many applicants there were for each zone though so we dont know the percentage. Oh well. Hopefully our names will be called next year! Good luck

I guess if you do the math you are correct. Maybe it would be worth it to put in for X9A instead of G3. You could always put them as #1 and #2 and hopefully your number gets called before all the tags are gone(which will probably be about 50 applicants!). Good luck

You might as well just leave your 2nd and 3rd choices blank if you put G37 and G6... the draw doesn't work that way. There is ZERO chance of drawing those two tags on a 2nd and 3rd choice.

There's actually 4 draws not three. There is a first choice max-point draw that will typically fill the entire 90% tag quota for each premium zone. There is a 2nd first choice random draw for the 10% of tags that are set aside to give all applicants a chance at their first choice with out consideration to points.

2nd choice and 3rd choice have no consideration to points and have virtually a zero chance of drawing any premium tag based purely on the number of first choice apps. for each premium unit each year.

I was told that if your app. was randomly drawn say 60th and your 1st choice of G3 tags was already gone, then you would get your 2nd choice. If those tags were all allotted then you'd go to your 3rd choice. Thats how it was explained to me. I undertand those with max points get first crack but those without max points still have a shot.

I saw pictures of three different bucks(big) and he told me he was drawn 3 out of 7 years. This was about 5 years ago. His name is M. Dutra. I'm not sure if you want to research it but I really dont care. Thats what he told me so why was I to question it. He was a friend of mine. Who knows? As far as the draw goes- I understand. You really only get one shot at a premium hunt as your first choice.

No disrespect to you or your friend. It's just hard to believe, but I'll admit it's possible. The odds are better to draw a Ca desert sheep tag than a G-3 tag. I've never heard of someone drawing two Ca sheep tags either. Good hunting and I hope your friend draws another one!! Ed F

LAST EDITED ON Aug-25-06 AT 10:07AM (MST)[p]Hell, no way. Some of us other guys need a turn!!! No disrespect taken. Maybe he wasnt telling the truth. Only he knows. Take it easy.

Once: congratulations
Twice: Lucky SOB, need to buy lottery tickets
Three: Impossible, improbable, incomprehensible and with all due respect, I don't believe it.
Good luck on your hunts.

>No it is like pal said,
>only 10 % go to
>random, as for LE units,
>they fill up with max
>point, first choice apps.

What's interesting is that the 10% set-aside draw is done without consideration to points right? All max point guys that didn't get drawn go back into the pool with all the other first choice applicants and that draw is done based solely on your randomly assigned number.

So, maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, you could be a max point guy and draw one of those tags in the 10% pool and NOT loose your points. Which means you'd have a pretty good shot at drawing a premium tag again the next year with all your points intact.
