I will hunt second week of October. Hair length should be nice. The location of my hunt (DG869) is just east of Mt. Palmer's peak.

Goats might actually be low near river basin by October 7 per AK F&G officer I spoke to at Western Hunting Expo in SLC yesterday. Outfitter says this hunt unit is a target-rich environment for goats and most of his clients fill tag by 3rd day with about half shooting a goat the first morning. Hmmmmmmm.

First goat hunt. First trip to AK. Any advice appreciated. Heck, even snarky comments are welcome.

if you can afford the guide fee and costs to/from AK, you should not have a problem getting a nice goat.

enjoy

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Working out every other day. Lost 10 pounds while adding muscle so am on my way to being ready. Concentrating on legs. Counting the days...under 200 to go.

Looking into getting a video camera to buy for the trip that is light and has long battery life. Never filmed a hunt but figure might as start sometime.

Outdoors, Good luck, you will have a blast. I have also drawn that tag this year. Hunted it in Sep 2006 before it was a draw hunt and took a young billy on the last evening of the last day. (I was hunting moose and grizzly primarily so it wasn't our main objective) Most guides that have any clue what they are doing have about a 100% sucess rate on goats with most of the unsucessful hunts occuring primarily because of clients not being in shape to actually get to the goats. In Sep we had to climb about 3000 feet to get to them but in Oct they should be a little lower. Should be a little bit easier but I'm expecting on having to climb all the way to the top so anything less then that will be a bonus. Curious on the name of the outfitter you are going with. I take a little Casio Exilim camera that takes pictures as well as video. On a 1 Gb card you can get around 2 hours of video or 500-600 pictures. I have 2 extra batteries for it and have never had to use the 3rd battery, even on a 14 day trip. Again, good luck, John
