Draw Results

Anybody know what is going on in Anchorage this year with the draw? I know they combined the spring and winter draw, etc., this year, but I still can't figure out why it should take them so long. They had the brown bear results out weeks ago. The application deadline was Dec 31.

WHAT IS TAKING SO LONG?

I would understand this if they were waiting for spring game counts to set quotas. They won't have more information in March. It would also make sense if they were holding lots of application money, but you only pay the application fee before the draw, so that isn't the answer either.

The delay in results has a real impact on other applications in the lower 48. In years past, I could make decisions after knowing the Alaska results. This year, I am submitting applications in multiple states that might conflict with Alaska. While I would like to draw in Alaska, given I only have the application fee invested, I might have to forgo that hunt if I draw a different hunt in the lower 48 which I have aleady paid for in full. Alaska seems to be shooting themsleves in the foot with this delay. Hard to believe in this day and age of electronic applications that it takes 90 days to do a computer draw. What gives?

Bill,
Only the non resident brown bear results were released.

Rumor has it fri the 26th they will be posted.

I'm not sure why its taking so long, but it really isn't that long compared to so many other states.

This appears to be a reasonable compromise. Yes, we would all like the draw to be done in a few days/weeks, but...As with hunting in all of the lower 48, you take some chances when you apply in more than 1 state. You just have to prioritize. I would love to see the draw move to Oct, then be out by years end, but it isn't feasible. Oh well, good luck in your draws. I hope it works out the way you want it to.

I've played the tag lottery long enough to know that few, if any states listen to their applicants, or are motivated by timliness. And yes, Alaska is still better than a few states (but not many).
We all know they will do as they please. I'm just curious about their motivation. In years past, the winter draw results were out in a month or less. Some states (WY, for example) wait to conduct some of their draws until the spring counts are completed. Makes sense.
There isn't any way AK is getting spring count information this early, however. And they are taking three times longer than last year. If I really believed someone was slaving over their computer, working to get this done as fast as possible, I wouldn't have an issue. It seems like something else is going on, however.
I was just wondering if anyone had any insight into the motivation for the delay in Anchorage. We'll all roll with the punches, but some will lose out from the delay.

Results are posted. Looks like I can continue with my training program of drinking beer and eating tater chips. Oh well, maybe next year.

Bigbull, I'm with you. I drew zero (as usual). Oh well, I guess I can keep planning for this years float hunt now.

Good luck to everyone else.
