Wasilla Hunting?

I have an uncle that does not hunt, but lives in Wasilla, AK. Is there any good hunting around Wasilla? I've hunted the Brooks for caribou, but was hoping to do some inexpensive hunts from my uncles. Any advice would be sweet!

There is hunting around Wasilla, some of it is good, but you have to search for it. The Valley has lots of Moose, but also lots of people who hunt it because its close. Don't be afraid to pull off the road and start hiking. You never know where you will find a legal Moose. Make sure you know how to get back though, as it is heavily timbered. ATVs help some and will get you further back, but don't expect to be alone. Since Alaska has only a small amount of roads, if you can drive there, so can many others. You will hunt with people. Make sure you know the property lines, as there is lots of private land mixed with public.

You can also drive to other areas around Wasilla fairly cheaply, but the same rules apply. Maybe try around the Talkeetna, maybe Glenallen, or anywhere in between. They are all fairly close and easy to do.

Theer is decent Black Bear hunting, mostly south of Anchorage, but also in some of the areas I mentioned.

By and large though, inexpensive and good hunting do not go together when it comes to Alaska.

Good luck.
